“Beautiful Hotel in need of updating”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

We stayed in one of the king suite rooms. The room was very spacious and the bed was so very, very, very comfy... However, that is where the good ended. The bathroom was very small and the shower was not functioning properly. The water pressure that was coming out was horrible, took 20 mins just to get all the soap out of my hair. It was not a pleasant experience at all. The room was very dated and the ceiling had several crack in it and the curtains were dirty and stained. Cobwebs were visible in every corner. The carpet needed cleaning and the pull out bed looked like it was 30 years old. The kids could not sleep on it so we had to take covers from the king bed so that they could actually lay down without something poking them. The hallway was dirty with dishes lying everywhere from the rooms where people were setting the dishes outside to be picked up. There was a wine glass outside of our room when we first got to it that had been there for a good while and was still there when we checked out. The hotel is located downtown, which is walking distance to lots of things, but for the price of 160.00 per night this room was not worth it. The staff at check-in was very nice and accommodating so that was a plus, but over all not a great value.

Our Sheraton Read house is known for its southern hospitality and once of a kind experience. I am glad your enjoyed our great service we are known for. As far as the issues you experienced, it is certainly not what I normally hear. I thank you for bringing them to my attention as we are using your comments to improve. If I can do anything to make it up to you, please let me know by calling 423-313-3873.
Warm Regards,
Jen

Amazing hotel in downtown Chattanooga. Facility and rooms are great but it's the staff that stands out. Timmy and Zach were exceptionally helpful with our car and bags and Ciera and Melanie went out of their way for us in food service. We will definitely be back!

We visited the Read House for our anniversary and was upgraded to the Club Level. Room was nice – bed very soft. Free internet and 2 TVs, but they are 9’ apart, so 2 people can’t watch different programs. The Read House is on the National Register of Historic Places, so walls are going to have eased edges but only the neat freaks are going mind. The rest of us are going to soak in the 166 years of history. There’s a Starbucks attached so at 5:58 AM I was standing outside the door - they don’t open until 7:00 on Saturdays. Went to the lobby to read email an wasn’t there long before someone setting up for breakfast in Porter’s Steakhouse happened by and asked if I would like some coffee. She brought a cup of her brewed Starbucks out along with cream and sugar. Let the morning begin! The hotel is pet friendly on the bottom two floors ($50), but this is downtown, so no free parking - valet $15.

Stayed at the hotel.during a convention. Was only a couple of blocks from the center. I had an older room with some things needing repair or replacement. The wallpaper was loose in the bathroom and a water stain was evident also in the bathroom. There was only one trash can next to the desk. None in the bathroom. Other than a few cosmetic flaws, the stay was comfortable. Did not eat in the dining area but it looked very good. If I was going to visit the area again, I would probably look for rooms on the north side of town as it is closer to attractions I would like to see.

Friendly service including prompt valet and accommodating check in. As a Starwood preferred, they graciously offered me a room upgrade at check in.

The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of downtown, and I appreciated the old and historic charm.

Also, the bedding was very comfortable!

A few things were off with the stay - the Starwood website and the in room print materials all reference a hot tub which no longer exists and has been carpeted over. Many of the lamps in my room were unplugged and required climbing behind te sofa to reconnect. The bathroom wallpaper was old and stained, and the shower curtain rod was precariously installed and felt ready to come undone.

With some upgrades, this could be a great hotel.

We always stay here when in town. The front desk person had difficulty checking us in. The hottub has been removed. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The valets provide excellent service. The location is.excellent. It is downtown and on the route for the electric shuttle.
