This lobby of the hotel was the train terminal in Chattanooga and has been restored magnificently. You can stay in a room that was an old railroad car. We didn't stay in one but looked and they were well done. The regular hotel rooms need some TLC. Service was good and the staff helpful. A bit out the way, but free electric bus shuttle downtown just across the street.

Ate in the two hotel restaurants--very good.

All in all, a nice 3 days.

Upon arrival, we thought we were in for a treat due to the lobby, and the guest reception. However, we were wrong. We decided to "upgrade" and stay in one of the train cars. Well, I hope, the rooms in the actual building are much nicer, cleaner, and sound proof....do not upgrade to the train car! You will be very disappointed!

The room: The train car consist of one bathroom, one twin (day) bed, and a queen bed and a desk. Also, the room does have a flat screen tv. The queen bed was the highlight of the room as it was comfortable. However, the other furniture and carpet was very dated.

The Bathroom: The bathroom had very low, moldy ceilings. Also, the air-vents were so full of debris I don't see how they functioned. The tiles in the floor were cracked. However, the water pressure was good.

The real problem: We did not get to sleep because of the couple next door. When I say you can hear every word from the other room, I mean it. It was so bad we had to call the front desk at 2:30 am to ask them to handle the issue...They called the room immediately (We could hear the conversation). However, it did little to stop the problem.

The next day, we were never so happy to leave a property. We will not be back. Again, I imagine an actual hotel room would have been much better.

It is a great historic property however, it needs a COMPLETE overhaul. I hope it can actually be restored one day.

Room Tip: Do not get a train car!

I am sorry that we didn’t meet your expectations. It is unacceptable that your train car was not in great shape. We have located the car and it is out of order for maintenance and housekeeping to repair. WE have 24 hour security, they should be sent to the room. We normally get rave reviews about our train car rooms. I regret you were not one of them. I will email you and try to speak with you.

I grew up in Chattanooga and returned there for a reunion event with high expectations. Perhaps it is better, as reviewers have noted, if you stay in the rail cars. However, Hotel 1, where I was located, is worn, dated, dingy, and in disrepair. The shower ceiling in our bathroom was mildewed, the paint dingy, the carpet gritty. This place should be closed and renovated. It is easy to see why the Hilton chain may have divested this property. The only meal I had there was the event catered buffet, which was reheated, and pedestrian. Our event was scheduled to end at 11:45, but Choo Choo staff began breaking down the room shortly after 10. They pointedly told us to return any glasses we were still using to the bar so they wouldn't have to clean them up. We retired to the bar at 11 to continue our visit, only to be informed by a fairly churly bartender that it was closed. I was very disappointed in the entire Choo Choo experience; this was a landmark of my Chattanooga childhood. The rest of the Scenic City has enjoyed a stunning rejuvenation while this place seems to have sunk into dereliction and neglect. If I go there again, it will be in a pine box or an urn.

That’s disappointing to hear. I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations. No excuse for the housekeeping issues. There are room inspectors, in addition the room attendant. I have reviewed your comments with the respective Department Heads, so that they can take corrective action. We take your comments very seriously and it is our opportunity to improve our product and service. The corridors and lobby were renovated about 4 years ago, along with new flat screen TV’ and new bedding just 2 years ago We have sold over 8,000 thousand rooms this month and we had 7 tripadvisor reviews that were 3 stars or below.

The lobby is great being the old ticket hall of the Station and the platforms and gardens are interesting but the hotel blocks are like something out of East Europe before the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Might be better if you stayed in the railway carriages - they looked fun. Breakfast was dreary.

Room Tip: Book one of the converted rail carriages for some atmosphere.

Thanks, It is a great setting. The building was built in the mid 80s. It’s not the newest but it’s highly requested. From the architect: Building 3 is constructed with pre-colored and textured masonry commonly used in commercial and hospitality applications. The railings on the balcony and cross walks are patterned pre-cast concrete panels that are integrated into the masonry construction of the building.
Our Customer Satisfaction Index for this quarter on Trip advisor is 83%.

After eight hours on the road and a trip to Ruby Falls, we had hoped to collapse at our hotel. However, we had originally booked the Marriott Convention Center and there was an issue with our room, and they were sold out. After standing at the front desk, and listing to guest after guest come down and complain about cleanliness, we weren't sad to leave. With most of the area hotels sold out for a Dog Show, we were lucky to squeeze into the Chattanooga Choo Choo. We were quite leery at first since we rely on Marriotts and Hiltons to provide a consistent safe haven away from home, but this turned out great!

The front desk staff was very nice, and security happily drove us around in golf carts. The grounds were it's own town, and we really liked the atmosphere. Although the hotel seems dated in almost every way possible, it is a nostalgic feel rather than run down. Almost like going back in time, which seems appropriate since it is a Historic Hotel.

We were in late, but were able to eat at the Station House where there was live music, and very talented singing waiters and waitresses. Our waiter was quite charming, and nobody blinked an eye at the baby at our table who was obviously out passed bedtime. The baby clapped after each song, and Mom and Dad smiled because that's what the atmosphere offered. We had a soda at the diner car, purchased original animal crackers at the sweet shop, and danced with the baby between train cars.

Our room was 1024 in building three and was quite large. The housekeeping staff had done a fantastic job with the cleaning, and compensated well for the items that maintenance had neglected. A stained window curtain, areas of the wall that required spackle, and a chipped and pealing toilet seat were all that stood between "good enough", and "nice". Even the shampoo was far nicer than most hotels. I wish that the minor repairs were done, but we had a great time, and would stay there again.

Room Tip: The train cars look very cool, I would consider this, however there is a lot of foot traffic passed...

Made famous by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra, Chattanooga Choo Choo (Hotel), with its huge unmistakable rooftop neon sign, is situated at Market Street and East 14th Street. My wife and I stopped at this historical site for a nostalgic lunch break on our journey from Gatlinburg to Atlanta. The original Chattanooga steam locomotive, finely decked in its traditional red, green and black, presents a perfect photo opportunity as it sits on platform 1 coupled with a still active and popular restaurant car and sleeping car carriages, the latter an accommodation favourite with hotel guests. Pretty gardens and courtyard are now in the in-fills between the eight platforms where the rails once served the busy platforms of incoming and outgoing trains full of passengers. The famous railway station, now the Hotel, with its attractive red brick exterior is well kept, its interior and in particular the eye-catching lobby area is also well preserved in time – upon a visit, squint your eyes for just a second and the station re-appears from a bygone age, busy with travellers in line at the ticket office (now the hotel reception) and porters with trolleys full of baggage hurrying to and from the platforms to the background noise of train whistles. In addition to the smart Station Restaurant for dinner, there are quite a few choices for daytime refreshments on site, lunch snacks, coffee, pastries, candy and ice creams are all available. As any visitor would expect, the small well stocked shops on site sell everything ‘Choo Choo’ plus many other associated gifts and general tourist merchandise. An additional bonus for all railway enthusiasts is an on-site museum with model trains. A great place, well worth a visit or ideally a stay.
