Owner description: Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

My boyfriend and I decided to randomly stop at this place and it was a very pleasant surprise! We paid $13.50 to go see the caverns and it was so cool. The people that run this cave really care about the cavern and preserving it as best as they can so it can grow and stay natural. The cave tour took you to about 5 different areas of the 5 mile cave (however, you don't see all 5 miles in the tour) that takes about 45-60 minutes. My boyfriend and I have decided we want to go back in the future and do the 8 hour tour of the 5mile long cave, and you can stay overnight.
Overall amazing experience, the staff is young but they know their stuff and they legitimately care about the caverns and they love their job. Definitely recommend everyone to go see this if they're in the Chatanooga area:)

We went on the 4.5 hour waterfall tour with Corey. It was pretty physical, and had some thrilling moments, like the 2 story slide! Corey was awesome, he told us the history of the cave's discovery, told us about the unique wildlife in the cave, showed us marine fossils, and even indulged us with some ghost stories. I had never been caving before, and I had a blast. The cave is stunning, and there are lots of tiny holes to go through and mud to wallow in. I would love to come back and definitely recommend it.

Most caves have something special that justifies the price; Raccoon Mountain does not and I think it’s a rip-off paying a $15.24 entry fee. Driving around the Raccoon Mountain area is a much better attraction and it’s free. Save your money and go elsewhere, unless you only want to provide a job for the young people who work there.

We did the 6 hour tour with Gerry and it was awesome. It surpassed what we thought it would be. It was awesome. Real caving. Real mud, real memories-- not for the out of shape but if you want to challenge urself this is the trip. Need to book few days in advance and we loved jerry. He truly loves the cave and keep it fun/ interesting/ challenging !!

Splunkers and wanna-be splunkers alike will enjoy this tour much more than the traditional trip to another famous local cave. While the tour is about 20 minutes shorter, you get the feel of this being much less commercialized. Small groups, and guides who are not only knowledgeable but also passionate about caves add to the enjoyment.
