Description: What constitutes "New South Flavors?" For us, it is begins with reverence for those time-honored Southern dishes. Served up by wonderful home cooks for years. We respect the freshness, the flavors and the food itself. But we like to jazz it up a little, add something deliciously unexpected to delight your palate. Our interpretation of traditional Southern fare is creative, inventive and satisfyingly scrumptious. Cheers to New South Flavor!

I'm Chattanooga for a trail race and staying at the Hampton Inn downtown. Tupelo Honey is nearby and I was craving breakfast food after I finished my run. There is easy parking in the garage behind the restaurant. I ordered an omelet with a side of the goat cheese grits and a biscuit. The grits were awesome and the homemade blackberry jam was great on the biscuit. I didn't have to wait for table and the staff was sweet.

We went for lunch, arriving about 11:10. As we walked up we saw that most of the tables were empty, so we thought we would get in quickly. WRONG! They already had people lined up out the door waiting to be seated. It took about 20 minutes to get seated, and the restaurant tables were almost empty--inside and out. The host staff didn't seem to have a clue about what they were doing. When questioned about the wait, the staff said the kitchen was backed up. They were waiting to seat up until the kitchen was caught up "so we could have the best experience possible". Too late! We were about to leave and go next door to Public House, when they seated us. The waitress was friendly. Service was slow. The appetizers were good--fried green tomatoes and cheesy grit cakes. The biscuits, honey, and blueberry preserves were fabulous. There was no "lunch" menu so the meals were quite pricey for lunch. The entrees were just ok. I probably won't go back.

I could make a meal out of biscuits, honey and blue berries. They are served warm and fall apart. I had the tomato soup and downtown toasted cheese sandwich gives toasted cheese a whole new taste. Service was very good, as it was the 4th night open it took a long time for the food to come but worth the wait. Husband had hamburger and said it was one of the best he ever had we both enjoyed the fried green tomatoes.
