My son and I were on a road-trip recently traveling from Texas to Virginia. As luck would have it, we were going to hit Chattanooga around lunchtime, so I started my frantic look online for “Best Eats”. The Hickory Pit popped up on several foodie apps so we decided to give it a try. This is indeed an off-the-route hidden gem worth your time. I don’t know which angle to highlight first, the service or the food. Jason took the time to explain the menu to us and provide the inside scoop on how items are individually prepared. He honestly could have probably sold us on any menu option. There was something incredibly genuine about the way he not only talked about the offerings, but the history of The Hickory Pit. There is so much care that goes into this food and the experience they provide each customer. The family owned business is HIGH On taste. I settled on the killer potato, accompanied by beef that had been cooked for 17 hours, and two sides. Somewhere around bite three of navigating my way from baked beans, to coleslaw and then potato I slipped into some form of culinary coma…. I was completely powerless to this food. My son had a two-meat plate with the green beans and potato salad so we could try all the homemade side items. In a word, UNBELIEVALBE. Relabel those side items as Your Next Addiction.
Again, it is hard to say which aspect of this meal put it over the top for me. I’ve traveled extensively and I know good food, but it is a rare occasion to find service and care to parallel amazingly prepared, high quality ingredients. This place has both.
Exceptional service??? Yes! Unforgettable food??? Yes!
