First- Free valet parking. I went here during Chattanooga Riverbend with activities less than one block away and expected everywhere to be jammed packed. We pulled right up and saw there was free valet parking and avoided ALL the riverbend activities. Second- It was Friday at 7pm and we were seated with no reservation. Third- the decor was upscale but homey. Forth- They offered a variety of adult beverages which I had never heard of before. They were made to perfection.
The menu offered a eclectic assortment of what appeared to be southern favorites but all had a pleasant culinary twist. We had the lamb biscuits as an appetizer. PURE HEAVEN. We also had what we thought was going to be a vidalia onion casserole but turned out to be a much more healthy and delicious alternative- not cheesy as the traditional favorite. We then shared the Appalacian lunchable (deviled eggs, pimento spread, picked shrimp, picked vegetables and maple bacon with country ham and biscuits) which sounded to me like it would come out covered in country gravy. Instead, it was a surprisingly light and sophisticated combination of these country favorites. Dessert- we had the brown butter walnut pie, which was very sweet but tasteful.
I am a slave to tripadvisor but I can tell you this should be the Number 1 rated restaurant in Chattanooga (and yes I've eaten at St. John's).
