“My favorite place in Chattanooga!”

Reviewed July 5, 2014

We live in Chattanooga and we hike to what locals call "the blue hole" once or twice a year! The water is crystal clear and cold. Large bolders to jump from into the deep crystal clear water. The most popular rock to jump from is about a 30 minute hike from the parking area.
We love this place and in my opinion the best hiking in Chattanooga that also includes swimming.

The North Chickamauga Pocket Wildeness is located about 20 minutes north of downtown Chattanooga off of the Thrasher Pike exit from US-27. It is a great spot for hiking or a picnic. The main hiking trail is moderately difficult, and passes by several would-be waterfalls if it has recently rained. It is an uphill trail to the top, then downhill on the way back. The views are very nice, and the scenery seems more like a state or national park. There is also a small primitive campground about 9 miles into the hike, so an overnight backpacking trip is very feasible. The trail is dog-friendly also. In the summer, there is a "blue hole" swimming spot just off from the parking lot, but it's not a good spot if you're looking for a quiet secluded swimming hole. If you are looking for a real hike without leaving the city, this is the spot.
