Not my cup of tea, but great for the kiddos. Hard to get in the Christmas spirit over an ear curdling Tennessee twang. Santa and his little elf helpers were very cool. They do a nice job and its a non-profit, which is cool.

“Choo choo”

We enjoyed the train ride and were impressed by the friendly staff and history of the TVR. We would have liked to go for longer but due to the time of year only the shorter train rides were available. This is a great attraction at a reasonable price for families with children.

“Very well ran place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2012

One of the better railroad meuseums in the country. They try hard with a mostly voulenteer staff and do so on a professional level. The local train (usually steam) is short with nice things to do and see at both ends. The longer excursions are excellent. Unusually well maintained , clean and neat.

“Summerville train ride”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

The beautiful Fall day made this trip better than it really was. It just got old because the train was so slow and all the stops at so many road crossings made it too long. The train had to stop at many of the crossings and a flagman got off to stop traffic because the lights at these crossings did not work. The reason they didn't work was because no railroad line used this part of the tracks to Summerville other than the Tennessee Vally Railroad , which used it only about 5 times a year for these Saturday Fall trips. Thus, many of the lights were not kept up anymore. There was a mixture of sights on the way from run down residentual areas, old factories, and graffiti painted overpasses to interesting sights such as the Veteran's cemetery, Chickamauga battlesite, Civil way era tunnel, and the town of Summerville, Ga. itself. The bottom line is that the all day trip is just too long causing more boredom than excitement.
