“E for Effort.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2011

I give them credit they are trying. Safety was a concern based on reviews, but the folks at the Visitor's Center downtown said we would be fine. From a value play, the hotel works. The rooms are comfortable and clean and we had a good night's sleep. Other than updating the TVs there isn"t much lacking in the rooms. Standard La Quinta is what you can expect. The rooms are in better condition than than the overall hotel.

Staff was pleasant and there were a few nice touches we noticed. There was water with fruit available at the entrance, They have a manager's reception which I had not seen before at a La Quinta. In the morning they had grab and go bags for people who couldn't stay for breakfast.

Overall, this is a very affordable option, close to downtown and more than adequate for a one night stay. When graded against the hotel's peers, it is a reasonable choice worthy of your consideration.

Room Tip: On the east side you get a view of mountains

How do I love La Quinta? Let me count the ways -
1.) Inexpensive yet great value.
2.) Pets are welcome, regardless of weight for no extra fee.
3.) Nice refreshments upon arrival - water w/ orange slices & chocolate cookies.
4.) Other than a small glitch w/ a room key - check in was smooth, staff is friendly.
5.) Rooms are not outdated and super clean
6.) numerous HBO's
7.) WIFI
8.) fridge/freezer/microwave

We stayed here the 21-23 Oct and found the accomodations very comfortable and pleasant. I was a little hesitant about our safety after reading some of the other posts concerning the location being in the 'hood' and graffiti. Once we arrived and checked out the area our concerns were put to rest. There was a short block of somewhat run down homes but other than that the area was a typical downtown location. The hotel was centrally located to all the attractions. When we arrived Friday afternoon there were fresh baked chocolate cookies waiting for us in the entry way along with orange drink. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. This is a pet friendly hotel, however, pets aren't allowed on the 5th floor where we stayed. The hotel provided a full breakfast bar that included fresh waffles, scrambled eggs, biscuit/gravy, cereal, coffee, etc, which was fresh, hot and delicious. I was amazed that there was only one person, Anna, manning the breakfast bar and she did an awesome job of providing a constant supply of hot biscuits, coffee etc, to the steady stream of guests. I would definitly stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 512.

Overall, the facility is mostly clean and a good value. Very near downtown attractions like the aquarium and restaurants. Also it's just a short drive from Lookout Mtn, Ruby Falls, and Rock City. On the downside, the rooms are extremely small, outdated televisions with limited stations available, and the location can be tricky to get to. Free WiFi comes in great. On the "ICK" factor, there were numerous stains on the carpets both in the common areas and in the room we stayed in. Since this hotel allows pets, I don't know if these are from spilled drinks, food, or pets. No matter what the source, the large number of stains should be taken care of immediately. It's gross. With that being said, there was no smell associated with the stains, and based on what I paid, I still think the value was good.

We stayed 2 nights & would have stayed 3 if they hadn't gotten fully booked before we decided to stay again. They are still doing some updates but the rooms are in good shape, except for some tears in the carpet around the door frame, and older, tube TV. The bed was a little firm, but comfortable, with plenty of fluffy pillows. We've noticed LQ is using duvets now, like Hampton Inns have been for years, which is an added nicety. There is no counter in the accessible room's bathroom, and the shower seat is rickety, but the roll in shower is spacious and all tiled. Breakfast was REALLY nice, eggs, sausage, gravy, biscuits, waffles, plus plenty of other breads and pastries. Coffee is available 24/7 as is iced lemon-water in the lobby. The staff is the epitome of southern hospitality. Call them directly for the best rate.

My family and I stayed at this hotel on July 30, 2011. We got into town late at night, so didn't see the grafitti all around the area..that would've been the first indication of the bad location. Anyway, we walked into lobby, which was understaffed. One of two elevators was broken, the "working" elevator had no A/C-it was stifling in it--and was very slow. But the worse was yet to come. We walked into our room and were assaulted by stench of smelly socks, sweaty feet, and stained carpet. It was awful; I tried to change rooms, but was told no other rooms were available, so we were forced to stay there for one night. Also noticed the door knob on our door was loose, but this appeared to be the rule rather than the exception, as two of our neighbors also had a very loose door knobs. Other problems were our AC unit was old and noisy, limited handicapped parking, & very small breakfast room for # of rooms. As expected, we checked out ASAP the next day.
