What a nice environment and great food! Unfortunately they *really* took their time. No sense of urgency whatsoever. But if you're looking for a relaxing lunch, then bring a book, enjoy the scenery, and have some great, creative food!

I know this is Trip Advisor and not a political or religious site so I don't want to spend too much time commenting on the people who run this restaurant except how it effects the dining experience. If you want more information on the Yellow Deli People aka Twelve Tribes, there is plenty of information out there.
However, sometimes I feel uncomfortable with the servers because they won't make eye contact. I don't know if they are forbidden to or what. Also I feel badly for the women because they seem so subservient. But I figure they are all over 18 and there on their own free will.
I will say they have never proselytized in all the times I've been there.
Now, to the food. Everything I've ever had there, including the chili, veggie pita, and salads are all fresh and delicious. The peach mate is delicious and great on a hot summer day. The woodworking is amazing and the instrumental music relaxing. The prices are good too. They close on Friday afternoon through Sunday around noon to celebrate their Sabbath.

The craftsmanship of the building's interior is reason enough to visit. Located near the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, on campus really, this restaurant's history dates from the early 70's in Chattanooga. Run by a religious community / commune, the Yellow Deli serves great food in a faith friendly environment. At one time there were many Yellow Deli establishments in SE Tennessee and NW Georgia but the group moved north only returning to Chattanooga a few years ago to reclaim their geographic heritage. They are open 5/24 - Sunday 3PM until Friday 3PM.

A beautiful, self made, self appointed establishment. The "owners" make much of the food homemade themselves. They also made the furniture and furnishings mostly themselves, and it's absolutely gorgeous wood work. So incredibly unique.
They serve breakfast all day, and I highly recommend the lambwich type breakfast sandwich. It is beyond excellent. But truly everything there is wonderful. I highly recommend this.
The "owners" are different, but they are all very kind and pleasant and it's just a very unique and awesome experience. You gotta try it to understand.
They also have homemade goodies to take home, including fresh baked breads, desserts, coffee's etc. they are very into HEALTHY foods and drinks. Great smoothies and teas and other unique drinks. One of the few places around that actually serves Reed Ginger Brew.
They are also opened 24 hours except for their keeping of sabbath on the weekends when they are actually closed. Check store for hours before you go.
They are a little slow on bringing your food and drink, but remember it's being prepared very fresh !!!
Go try it, and enjoy !!!
