“OK, but put it last on your list”

We visited Rock City prior to taking the Incline. Rock City has acres of free parking, several gift shops and touristy stores, restrooms, etc. Best of all are the spectacular views from Rock City.

You can begin your round trip on the incline from the top or the bottom. There is limited paid parking at both ends. In house snack shops offer sparse choices compared to the multiple restaurants at Rock City.

Finally, there is a single viewing point at the top of the incline which is about 75%. Of the way up the mountain.

The incline uses 2 tramcars, #1 and #2. There is are 2 recordings played, one on the way up, the other on the way down. They offer interesting information about the incline and the area. We were fortunate to travel in car #2 in both directions and heard both recordings. There was a rather permanent appearing paper sign taped to the ticket taker's booth apologizing for car #1's sound system being out of order.

Our round trip took 1 hr 15 minutes.

An ok experience, but there are other more rewarding sites to be explored in Chattanooga. If you want good views, interesting shops and activities at both ends - then spend your time and money at Rock Gardens.

“Great ride and view!”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

It was a cold, mid-November day, but clear and exhilarating. The view from Lookout Mountain at the top and walking the area where several battles were fought really brought home history for my wife and me. A truly rewarding experience!

“Be inclined to experience this!!”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

WOW!!!!! Our group ages 5-65 really enjoyed this trip. It is a chance of a lifetime to ride this historical route. Even if you forget your camera, the images will be etched in your mind forever. The historical value as well as the thrill of the ride is worth the pricey ticket. When you hear incline railway, believe that it is the steepest railroad in the world. Incline is putting it mildly. The train departs every 30 minutes and they are on time!!

“A piece of history you can ride”
Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

We love the trip up and down the mountain but that is only part of the attraction. The walk to and through the park at the top really tops off the whole experience. Make sure you bring a camera or video recorder on this one. It's an engineering marvel and a testament to how creative we humans are in finding ways to get to where we want to go! For this one the trip is as much fun as the destination!

This is the worlds steepest railroad. It is a very cool ride going down Lookout Mountain. It does go slow, so it is very safe. It is a very good experience and it's in the middle of Ruby Falls and Rock City.
