The view was amazing. a little disconcerting riding up the mountain, but very cool (especially from an engineering standpoint). At the top they have several observation decks (great photos!) and a gift shop - we wandered around for about 30 minutes and walked around the block to have a look at the houses before riding back down. I love that the audio message was different going up than coming down (interesting but not obnoxious!).

The car operators and the staff at both parts ot the Incline were just such nice people. They were very helpful (and patient) as we asked questions and wandered around. You can see the engine room and the cables that operate the railway - very impressive bit of machinery!

They made me feel quite safe, even when I was a little stressed about the incline (72* at its sharpest) and let us know how rigerous the mainenance schedule is. Beautiful in February and can see for miles around - I imagine the trees would impese most of the view in the spring and summer months.

The ride was very nice. We will have to go back when there is more to see. The train gave many great facts and the ride was smooth and fun.

During the ride, there is a recording playing that tells you about the history of the incline railway. There is a gift shop at the top and bottom. The one at the top also has food. The top station is only a few blocks from Point Park.

This was a very fun experience. Do it at least once when you are in the area. It was rainy and foggy and cold but we decided to do it anyway. The view will be awesome on a clear!

After living in the area my whole life without ever visiting this "must see" local attraction, I decided to give it a go to see if it lived up to the hype. In short, it didn't. You go down the side of Lookout Mountain in a trolley car, spend a few minutes in St. Elmo, then ride back up. When I went, admission was 15 dollars -- a rip off for something I could do myself, driving in a car, not surrounded by people I didn't know. If you're a first time visitor to the area, you may like the gift shop and the information the loudspeaker and the staff can give you. If you're a local, however, save your money and take the highway down the side of the mountain into St. Elmo. Much more scenic, and much cheaper as well.
