Unless you really want to spend $14.00 each on the thrill of going up the steep incline, take a pass on the Incline Railway. There really is not much to do at the top and you can see the same views on the Rock City and Ruby Falls tours, which definitely are worth the money!

“Drive Up The Mountain Instead”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2011

The wait to get to the top was acceptable, but when we got to the top we had to fight our way through the crowds waiting to go down. When we decided to go down we had to wait approximately one and one-half hours, without any areas to be seated. Unless you are a funicular fanatic save the fare and drive up to the top instead.

“Great Views - Interesting History”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2011

This is one of those things that when you've done it, you probably aren't going to return. But that being said, it was fun, interesting and great views from the top. We went on a Friday afternoon from the St.Elmo station up to the Lookout Mtn station. There were a large number of very loud kids on the train with us, so we didn't hear much of the recorded presentation. It was also difficult to get away from all the kids at the top, but a walk to Point Park was very nice and offered great views of Chattanooga and lovely old homes. There were so many people waiting to take the last few trains back down that we had to wait a long time. This time, however we were able to hear the presentation and it was very interesting. I would suggest to those that don't have young children and would like a trip as quiet and as crowd-free as possible, go on a weekday morning or if you're late in the afternoon and flirting with the last trips of the day, start at the Lookout Mountain station and go down to St. Elmo. There were only a few people on the trains returning to LM vs. trains returning to St. E were packed.
