Comfort Inn
Ranked #37 of 96 Hotels in Chattanooga
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We booked the Comfort Inn primarily because most of the downtown hotels had no vacancy at all this past weekend; I'm relatively certain one of the reasons this CI wasn't full is because of the confusing name (on most sites this location is specified as "Chattanooga/Lookout Mtn" which caused confusion); I mentioned this to the lady who checked us in so hopefully they can adjust that to be more clear regarding their actual location. You won't want to walk to the downtown area, but it's a VERY short ride.

Regarding the stay: this isn't the best or nicest hotel in the world, but it certainly isn't the worst. Inside, it looks to be higher standard than most CI's, and that carries into the rooms. Check out the pictures; also unlike many other hotels, what you see is what you get. The amount of space in the bathroom is utilized well, with plenty of mirrors that my wife appreciated. The bed was harder than I expected, but the pillows were comfortable. Our room looked out on the [closed] pool, where there were bright lights illuminating the scene that even the thick drapes couldn't keep out of the room. Highway traffic was audible but not terrible. Wifi is free, which is always a plus, as is breakfast but the breakfast was only average. Overall, not a bad place to stay the night, though I don't think I'd recommend it for longer stays.

We visited Chattanoogah to trace the movements of a Civil War ancestor. It took all day at Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, and Lookout Mountain, so we were tired and facing a long drive to Savannah the next day. We found the hotel quickly, as it is only a little ways from LM. Imagine our surprise to discover a rebadged Hampton Inn! It's all still there, the cute sayings on the coffee pots and elevator doors. Even the inspection certificates read "Hampton Inn." There's a reason Hilton turned this one over, probably several. We had a clue when we couldn't get the TV to work. Had to wait for the single night staff to get free and come up. She got it going, but we had to unplug it to shut it off. In fairness, we did get $20 off the bill. Hampton would have given us a free night.

The only thing wrong with this hotel is the neighborhood. It is a desolate spot tucked in the highway interchange. There is nothing else there except other hotels; absolutely nothing within walking distance that I would consider safe at night. It was hard to figure out how to get in the parking lot…even our GPS had us in another hotel parking lot. Keep your head up when you get there and look for the sign…trust me.

Chattanooga mostly goes to bed at 9PM apparently. Unless you want fast food or want to go in to town, you better get something to eat before you get there if it is late. Even the Whole Foods closes at 9PM in town; we had to go to Applebee’s downtown to get salads after 9PM (it was a long drive, we were tired and we were on central time so it was 8PM to us)

The accommodations are great. Room was great, a big fridge WITH A FREEZER (I hate hotel fridges without a freezer) but the microwave was as basic as it gets. The beds, covers and pillows are fantastic and the TV system is good. The hotel is clean.

The ice machines and vending area is enclosed in a glass wall to reduce the noise…what a great thing that is. If only all the guests would be as respectful of noise considerations as the design of this hotel, life would be better at all hotels, but some people are just not smart and respectful of others. We had a good stay though.

People, please try not to be loud. Hotel doors tend to close automatically and hard, you do have the ability to close them more lightly. Also, your kids are not always as cute to others as they are to you…their screams and loud voices can be like nails on a chalkboard to a tired traveler. Please consider being considerate of others; these are good opportunities for a learning experience in politeness for your children.

My husband and I checked in at 5:15, eager to get settled and go eat dinner since we hadn't had a chance to eat lunch due to the many tourist attractions we had been to earlier in the day. Check-in time is 4:00. To our disappointment, our room wasn't ready and we ended up sitting there waiting until it could be cleaned. We finally got into the room at 7:00pm. We would have been really, really upset if it wasn't for the concern and kindness of Michelle at the front desk. She was extremely apologetic and kept checking to see when our room would be ready. Eventually, she ended up going up to our room and helping to finish it up with the housekeeper. We don't blame her or the housekeeper as we understand they were shorthanded that day, but it would help to have more employees on hand when the hotel is so full. Putting guests through the wait is totally unacceptable. In the end, we ended up getting a discount on our already AAA-discounted rate, which was the right thing to do and helped remove the sting of trying to get checked in. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and the location centralized for visiting the area's various attractions. It would be nice if there was oatmeal (packets) and bananas included for breakfast. Also, the eggs ran out and never did get replaced during the 20 minutes we were eating, but we did appreciate the fat free cream cheese for the bagels and sugar free syrup for the waffles. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again since Michelle gave such a good impression and our inconvenience was acknowledged on our bill at check-out without us having to make it an issue.

Hotel is a little hard to get to. It is on a one way street, but close to the highway. Not far from downtown and much less expensive. It is very clean. Only stayed one night, but the linens and the bedding was very nice. Breakfast was good with a nice selection of food both hot and cold. Would definitely stay here again if we are in Chattanooga.

The location of the hotel is easy to access from highway but sort of in an older area--looked like an industrial area. However, it was easy to get to Downtown Chattanooga & RubyFalls/Rock City. There was not a desk clerk present when we arrived so we waited a few minutes. They might consider putting a bell on front desk to alert them to customers. Hotel & our room was clean. Room was very nice & king bed was comfortable. Complimentary breakfast was your usual hotel breakfast with an assortment of hot, cold items, fresh fruit-the area was clean & staff kept the food items available. Our door key never worked on side entrance. Again, no desk clerk when we checked out. We could see the manager in the office behind the check-in & my husband finally got her attention. She acted perturbed that we had interrupted her. Or, maybe she was upset over something else. We saw her reprimanding some of her kitchen staff earlier---close the door so your guests don't see that. It is very unprofessional.

My husband and I stayed here while on our fifth anniversary trip. We weren't looking for anything too fancy, just a safe place to keep our things, sleep, and relax. Originally we had thought we would stay at the KOA in Georgia but changed our minds the night we arrived. It just wasn't close enough or the cabin comfortable enough for us. Luckily we called last minute to the Comfort Inn and got a room for the time we would be in town.

The room was nice, but it did have a downside of not having a mini fridge or microwave. Not that big of a deal since we had a cooler with us but obviously for those who don't bring one, it could be an issue if you want to keep drinks or food while in the hotel room. With our room being a King suite, you would think they would have those amenities.

The breakfast was surprisingly pretty plentiful. They have both hot and cold items of different variety, as well as juices, coffee, and water or milk. The ice -maker close to us was nice to refill our cooler when we needed.

We stayed in a room down the hall on the right when you walk in past the counter and hit the breakfast area. It was a little frustrating that they have an entrance/exit door at the end (where parking is on that side). We could get out that way but couldn't get back in with our keys for some reason so we always had to either use the pool door or the front entrance. Also, our keys for our room only worked when you pressed it firmly against the back of the mechanism as you slid it in and back out. Again, not that big a deal but could get frustrating.

All in all, I think we would stay here again if in town again in the future. We hope to bring our daughter with us the next time so she can experience the Tennessee Aquarium, and Rock City. Two of the coolest attractions we saw while there. ;]
