During our vacation we had made plans to visit the Aquarium so we purchased tickets beforehand. We also purchased tickets for the IMAX presentation of Sharks, quite beautiful. The Aquarium allows you to immerse yourself into the Ocean and River Journey portions. There are many talks and presentations throughout the day so be prepared to change your schedule if needed. The IMAX has timed tickets so you must be ready to see the movie when it is your time, requires a little preplanning. There is also a River Gorge boat trip that you can combine as well, highly recommended. The boat takes you down the Tennessee river to the "gorge." The onboard docent is very versed in the ecology, wildlife and history of the area, she was terriffic. A day at the Aquarium requires you to set aside seceral hours of time that will certainly be well spent.

We have been twice and love the neat architecture of the Tennessee Aquarium. It is so artsy, and unique! The layout of the Aquarium is a one-direction route, through two huge buildings. We loved the displays and the variety of creatures is wonderful.

The two times we went were with a few month old baby, then later when he was around one. I have to say that despite the dim lighting and a few benches, it was very difficult for me to find places to nurse. I am pretty comfortable nursing in public, but I can imagine that it would be very frustrating for a newer and more modest mama than myself. We also were frustrated at the inaccessibility to toilets. The one-direction route makes it very difficult to access the toilets which are at the start and finish of the routes. This makes it difficult for diaper changes, potty-training, and probably would be tough for pregnant mamas, too.

Thanks so much for your review! For future visits, our nursing room is to the left after going down the escalator that is located in the lobby of River Journey.

My family has been to several aquarium including the one in Gatlinburg, TN but I must say we enjoyed this one a lot better. My kids loved the live butterfly exhibit. You actually go inside a room where hundreds of butterflies are flying around, you might just het lucky & have one land on you!!!

This is a must for the kids, they had a great time and enjoyed the River and Ocean portions but more so the River Aquarium. This is a great location and a great view of the Tennessee River and the kids will love it.

The River Aquarium was our favorite. Also the jellyfish exhibit. The Ocean aquarium could have been larger with more color.
