A little expensive, but neat. Aquarium is divided into two buildings. One for rivers and one for the ocean. Lots of interesting fish and other types of animals. One of the best jelly fish exhibits I've ever seen. LOTS of jelly fish. Not a lot of interactive stuff for the kids. There are scheduled Q&A sessions with the tank divers (in the shark tank) which was neat. One diver is set up with a mike in the tank so he can answer questions while in the tank. The IMAX theatre is a block or so away. There is one screen in it. We watched the Reef movie. It was good.

The Tennessee Aquarium is something everyone who is visiting Chattanooga should experience. We went on the 17th of February and though there was a line for tickets it went fairly fast. Enjoyed it greatly...

The planning and art work in the layout with the different settings both in the clear water and salt water is a day well spent, be sure to bring the kiddies.

I remember when they built this aquarium, it was my very first School field trip. i remember how fun and interesting it was how when you first walk in you get on an escalator and ride it all the way to the top of the building where you see a fantastic world of swamps and such; then as you move down to each level of the building you can see the surface fish, lower level fish and finally the fish of the deep. as an adult and having been to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago it is a little hard not to compare the Tennessee Aquarium with the Shedd. but if you have never been to an aquarium before then you will really enjoy this one.

We took our kids (ages 4 and 7) to the Tennessee Aquarium over the weekend. It is the perfect size for kids. You can do it in about two hours (if you don't add on an IMAX movie or the River Gorge Explorer). The exhibits are easy to navigate. Our boys loved the exhibit where they were able to touch sting rays and bamboo sharks. They also liked the chance to see birds close up--especially the owl.

I would recommend getting there when they open on the weekends. We didn't have too much of a crowd to contend with but there were huge lines to get in starting at around noon and lasting for several hours.

If you go with small children, I would also recommend figuring out what you are going to do for meals beforehand. They have some nice restaurants around the aquarium. However, we found long waits at many of the restaurants (even when we tried to go after the main lunch rush at 2pm).
