Just returned home after 3 nights at the Iron Mountain Inn. Good lodging in the Mountain City area can be challenging and as we began our trip, we had no idea where we were going to stay. Our first stop in the area was the Watauga Winery where Wayne was very helpful. We asked him where to stay and he suggested the Iron Mountain Inn. He promptly call Vikki the innkeeper and introduced us to her.

Vikki was great and a very interesting lady to talk to. When we got to the Inn it became very obvious that this was just what we were looking for. The views were incredible and the rocking chairs on the porch were calling to us to sit a spell and watch the sun and clouds play on the mountains in a most relaxing way.

Vikki gave us a tour of the Inn and the different rooms. After we settled in, we quizzed Vikki about the area and she was extremely helpful in guiding us through a most enjoyable visit to the area.

When we planned our next day, it became obvious that we would be up and out early to explore the area and Vikki accommodated our need by arranging an early breakfast for us.

We had a great time and I especially enjoyed the steam shower!

Looking forward to returning again in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: Make sure to try a room with the steam shower!

Hands down, this B&B is now my all time favorite. Vikki Woods and her specially designed inn were the answers to our dreams and more. The inn is beautiful, comfortable and perfectly appointed, and Ms. Woods' hospitality, thoughtfulness, and cooking are second to none. I will visit the Iron Mountain Inn and my new favorite innkeeper every chance I get!

I recently surprised my Mom and Dad with 2 nights at the IMI for their 50th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed their time there so much. On the 2nd day it snowed, and being from the south, my dad was very anxious to get back up the mountain after a morning looking around in Mountain City. He was afraid that he wouldn't be able to drive up the mountain in the snow. They spent the rest of the day watching the snowflakes fall through the large windows in the den and visiting with Ms. Vikki. In my dad's words, "if you ever have to be snowed in that would be the place you would want to be." Beautiful mountain views, very comfortable, loved the whirlpool, and the souffle for breakfast, was the description they gave. And Ms. Vikki felt like family. They thoroughly enjoyed it. My mom didn't want to leave. Hopefully one day soon I'll get my husband to take me there.

Room Tip: My parents stayed in the Memories room.

Iron Mountain Inn is at the top of, well, a mountain. Follow the curvy road and you're rewarded with an incredible view. The rustic log home is decorated with family heirlooms and everything you need to feel pampered... Including wonderful breakfasts!

The Inn has a wrap-around deck that looks out over the treetops - and at night, you'll have an unobstructed view of the stars. There's a lovely garden and pond in the back, and a walking trail off to the side. If you're more adventurous, follow the path to the Appalachian Trail (about a mile from the Inn).Vicki, the Innkeeper, has a wealth of knowledge about the area and many personal stories that kept us entertained.

We'll be back.

Room Tip: The Appalachian Spring, Family Memories, and Green rooms have private balconies.

We took our annual visit to the Iron Mountain Inn. All was excellent, as usual. The Inn is located directly below the mountain from a segment of the AT. About 2 miles straight up to hit the trail.
The owner of the IMI will pick-up thru hikers at either end of the AT segment, either near the Watauga Lake or at TN91 parking area. Call her for arrangements. My wife and our friends meet at the IMI and enjoy climbing the mountain to the AT and then hiking one of the shorter segments (either 9 or 7 miles). Breakfast is provided and is always something different and very good. Each room has a different view and are very comfortable (we have stayed in 3 of the 4). The IMI is a great place for a weekend getaway. They have internet access throughout the Inn and no TV's in the rooms (one TV in the Main den in case you are having withdrawals). We will continue coming back, probably each October when the leaves are changing.

Room Tip: All are good. We like the Green Room best.

My wife & I stayed at the Iron Mountain Inn during my section-hike of the Appalachian trail through TN and NC. AT hikers talk about the beauty of ME and NH but in my opinion the views there would have to be pretty spectacular to rival the scenery around Vikki's Iron Mountain Inn. Our several nights in the Creekside Chalet were relaxing; the only sounds at night were the crickets & frogs. The Chalet has a fully-equipped kitchen which worked out well as I usually departed well before serving time for breakfast in the main house.

Vikki was extremely hospitable, giving us a tour of the entire Inn as well as the gardens. She also recommended numerous sights for us to see (she even printed a map for us!) and some fantastic local restaurants. By the way, the nearby Thai restaurant serves excellent food!

Room Tip: The Creekside Chalet is secluded and restful.
