The cottage is fully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Memorable evenings eating on the decking with a spectacular view. The location is perfect as a base for exploring Lewis and Harris with lots of places nearby for less hectic days. We only stayed a week but at the end made a list of things we could have filled a second week with.
Highly recommend a trip out to sea even if you think you are going to hate it. Bosta beach is on Great Bernera and when we stayed there were dolphins in the loch by the bridge to the Island.
On arrival, Norma had catered to our every need - there was even a bottle of prosecco and freshly baked scones awaiting us after our long journey to the Outer Hebrides! Throughout our stay, this was not the only occasion on which she proved to be a gracious and welcoming host.
The cottage itself is modern, comfortable and includes all mod cons. Not least of which the spa bath, which was a personal favourite of mine for relaxing after a long day of hiking or sightseeing.
The best thing about the cottage is the location, with an abundance of wildlife outside the door and views out to Loch Roag, we marvelled daily at the beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings. Bernera is especially well located for exploring the West coast of Lewis and The Ard is walking distance from the Great Bernera Trail, leading the the breathtaking Bosta Beach.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return very soon - thanks Norma!
Our second visit to The Ard was just as good as the first three years ago. Norma presents a cottage with everything you need and is on hand if needed without being intrusive. The view from the cottage is definitely worth staying for and during our visit we had the constant accompaniment of a cuckoo calling which was a true sound of spring that we don't hear much in England now. We'll be back!
Lovely cottage, spectacular location with sea view, yet peaceful and relaxing.
Well appointed, modern & clean, with everything you could need for your stay.
Norma is the perfect host - invisible unless you need something
One of the best self catering cottages we have stayed in over many years.
We stayed four nights at The Ard and could have easily stayed longer. The cottage was warm and cosy and very well appointed. Norma has gone to a lot of trouble to make sure her cottage is not just a place to stay, but a place to experience. The view from the deck is amazing and the general location is great for travelling around Lewis or just relaxing at "home". Norma met us on arrival and our communication with her prior to arrival was excellent. We would certainly stay again (only next time, longer).
Lovely cottage, well equipped, warm and comfortable. Peaceful setting. Weather was great. Spent evening on the veranda drinking wine, taking in the view. Had great sighting of White Tailed Eagle from cottage. Would definitely recommend a visit.
A wonderfully warm welcome awaits when you arrive at The Ard! Stunning scenery and views, a gorgeous, warm, welcoming cottage and if it's your 50th birthday (as it was mine) a card, choccies and a bottle of Prosecco left for you! That's in addition to the lovely homemade scones!
During our week long stay, we drove over 1,000 miles around Lewis and Harris and The Ard was lovely to come back home to every night! The whirlpool bath, with it's multi coloured aurora lights (as we called them, due to them being the only aurora we saw all week! :( ) was soothing and relaxing. The beds were so comfortable - we all slept like logs! The cottage stands up extremely well to the Hebridean elements and despite everything the weather could throw at us, the cottage was always warm and cozy! A mention must also go to the hottest water I have ever got out of a tap! We'd love to go back and would definitely recommend the Ard to fellow intrepid guests, wanting to explore the gorgeous wilderness.
