“Great place to stay”
Reviewed May 22, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

Lovely cottage, well equipped, warm and comfortable. Peaceful setting. Weather was great. Spent evening on the veranda drinking wine, taking in the view. Had great sighting of White Tailed Eagle from cottage. Would definitely recommend a visit.

“Gorgeous cottage, perfect base to explore Lewis and Harris!”

A wonderfully warm welcome awaits when you arrive at The Ard! Stunning scenery and views, a gorgeous, warm, welcoming cottage and if it's your 50th birthday (as it was mine) a card, choccies and a bottle of Prosecco left for you! That's in addition to the lovely homemade scones!
During our week long stay, we drove over 1,000 miles around Lewis and Harris and The Ard was lovely to come back home to every night! The whirlpool bath, with it's multi coloured aurora lights (as we called them, due to them being the only aurora we saw all week! :( ) was soothing and relaxing. The beds were so comfortable - we all slept like logs! The cottage stands up extremely well to the Hebridean elements and despite everything the weather could throw at us, the cottage was always warm and cozy! A mention must also go to the hottest water I have ever got out of a tap! We'd love to go back and would definitely recommend the Ard to fellow intrepid guests, wanting to explore the gorgeous wilderness.

“Wonderful Visit ”

Excellent high standard accommodation, stayed for 4 nights 2nd week in October and the weather was amazing. The property was very well equipped, comfortable and cleaned to a high standard. The views from the decking were lovely and was so peaceful. Great base for exploring the island saw the most breathtaking beaches Bosta, Uig Sands and of course Luskentyre. Stornaway is about 35 minute drive. Would recommend to anyone visiting the island for a relaxing break and hope to visit again one day.

“Wonderful holiday home”

The Ard is a wonderful holiday home. Beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean and with fabulous views. It is extremely comfortable, has everything you could need and more and makes the perfect base to explore Lewis and Harris. Norma is a great host and the very welcome fresh scones, bottle of prosecco and local info on arrival helped make our trip. You will not be disappointed. We were sad to leave!

“Second visit to The Ard”
Reviewed June 27, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

When we began planning our second trip to The Outer Hebrides we didn't even have to consider where to stay, there was no other choice but to return once again to Norma & Amy's little retreat The Ard.
This time we took my parents both in their 70's with us and they loved it as much as we did, my Mum didn't want to leave!
The little cottage is spotlessly clean, and very modern and well appointed. There is everything you could wish for in your stay on Lewis. We have traveled the length and breadth of The Hebrides now from The Butt of Lewis to Eriksay beach and out as far as St Kilda but no beach comes close to Bosta Beach on Great Bernera, 5 mins drive from The Ard, a lovely pace to see the sun set. The views from the property balcony towards the sea and the Island of Little Bernera are breathtaking and relaxing at the same time. Just sitting on the decking in the early morning with a coffee taking in the view, absorbing the quietness, just the sheep, rabbits and birds for company. Bliss. When we arrived at The Ard at 9.30pm on a Sunday night it felt like coming home and even at this late hour on a Sunday Norma was waiting to greet us and make sure we had everything we needed including some delicious home made scones! Great Bernera is close to the standing stones, to the black house village and has some stunning landscapes. As a professional photographer I was in my element here. As a busy couple who both run their own businesses and travel extensively around the world we rarely use our precious holiday time to return to a place we have already been but The Ard is an exception and I left on the Saturday morning already wondering how and when I could excuse a trip back here. Thank you Norma & Amy for sharing part of your home with anyone lucky enough to book The Ard you really have a gem. Mark & Natasha x

The internet photos did not do this place justice. It was spacious, warm, clean with a wonderful view down the Loch. It was a great place to explore this amazing coastline.

“Island of peace and history”

First ever visit to Isle of Lewis. What a great place to holiday. This is a good location from which to travel the length and breadth of Lewis and Harris. The island is steeped in history.....standing stones thousands of years old , ruined brochs, early Christian remains, brooding peat moors and black houses. So many stunning beaches you lose count. The comfortable modern cottage is in a lovely Hebridean setting with loch and sea views. Good accommodation in fine weather and on wet days.
