“Absolutely lovely location!”
Reviewed December 30, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We had a bit of a challenge finding Lochan View Cottage (don't listen to your GPS, follow the owners instructions for getting there or you'll be traveling on a sheep path) because of our GPS and it was dark by the time we got there. It literally is the first cottage past the lochan. We loved our stay here, especially watching the sheep wander by daily. The weather was cool while we were there in August but we were cosy in our cottage. The kitchen is very well kitted out so we were able to make many of our meals. So much so see and do while there. Some rules when driving in and around Great Bernera and Uig. If you're closest to the a turnout, pull in, flash your flights and let the oncoming car pass you. Also, it's rude not to wave. For those of us from North America, the washer/dryer will be a challenge to figure out. The washer will take at least double the time we would expect here. Also, in the main bathroom (Doug took the master bath and I took the main) there's a pull cord near the sink. You'll need to pull this to get the power to work for the shower. It was the perfect spot for our week in Lewis.

We spent a week here in the summer and had a wonderful time. The location is perfect, close to Bostadh beach where we seen the most amazing sunsets and even a Golden Eagle. The cottage is very cosy, bright and clean with loads of natural light. It is comfortably furnished and has all the facilities you need and more, washing wachine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, bbq, garden furniture, comfortable beds and good linen. There is also a wood burner but when we stayed it was over 20 degrees so we didn't use it.
This is not a complaint but we had a few problems with the wi-fi. Everytime we used the internet with our mobile phone it would cut off after 10 seconds. It's just a compatibility issue because with the laptop and tablet it worked perfectly.
The cottage accepts dogs but the garden isn't completely enclosed so you either have to be lucky and have a well behaved dog or have it tied up all the time.
We wondered if Bernera would be too out of the way as you have to drive about 15 minutes off the main road to reach it but having spent a couple of days visiting both Harris and the North of Lewis, in our opinion, Bernera is probably the most beautiful area to stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lochan View.

“Cosy and spacious cottage.”

There were just the two of us but we enjoyed having the luxury of the extra space that this lovely cottage affords, and the sitting room was cosy with plenty of space to spread out. It also has a woodburner with some fuel provided but the central heating was sufficient and alas we didn't need to try it. We had arrived in wet and windy weather on Saturday but it cleared overnight and we had a lovely sunny week in which to explore this beautiful island of Lewis and its neighbour, Harris. We had everything we needed supplied in the cottage but were out and about so much that we didn't get round to trying out the bicycles or the garden furniture and decking. The cottage's owner has provided comprehensive information about the local area and the free Wi-fi enabled us to research anything we noticed on our travels for future visits. The cottage is situated between a loch and a church so is very quiet. It has a wealth of historical sites within a few miles and is a very good base for exploring the rest of the islands.

“Scenic setting”
Reviewed March 26, 2013 for a stay in March 2013

The house was well equipped and well laid out. Couldn't get the log fire to draw but there was also central heating and convector heaters. The sun shone in the front of the house all morning. Linen fresh and clean. It was great to be able to have the dogs. Plenty of lovely beaches for long walks with the dogs. There was a local shop that stocked most things you would need. We had shopped in Stornoway on way to cottage. You would definitely need a car and be prepared for wind but the scenery is fabulous and the local residents were very friendly. Good value for money and well worth a visit.
