Owner description: Wounded Knee Museum will be closed for the 2016 season. Due to reopen May 2017. After the fire in September 2012, The Wounded Knee Museum exhibits were reconstructed and displayed at a temporary location, but will be returning to their original location in Wall, South Dakota with an expected opening date of May 2017. We will be expanding our displays and exhibits. The Wounded Knee Museum opened in 2003 to share the events leading to the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. We appreciate your continued support, understanding and prayers during this transition of rebuilding. We look forward to seeing you in 2017!

“Interesting!”

I had no idea of the history here, very interesting (sad, but interesting). This is worth a stop, beats the tourist trap of Wall Drug!

“Enlightened”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2014

Passed through Wall on 7/31/14. The museum was definitely an eye opener. It's a part of our country's history, sad as it may be. I would whole hearted recommend that you take the time to go through this museum and become enlightened as well. Located just down the street from Wall Drugs. The rest of main street is all commercial, but this is for real.

“Must-see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2014

Soul-changing for me. Had no idea what had happened at Wounded Knee. It's important to know the truth, even though the truth hurts; and I'm glad I know it now! Have been reading and researching it ever since. Exhibits and video presentation very well-done. For just one hour, good to inject something truly worthwhile into your trip, something besides just cheap, superficial thrills.

“Take the time to listen and learn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2014

An excellent museum about a very difficult subject.
Factually told with a mix of videos and storyboards. Hard not to shed tears for the sheer sadness of that day. And the dignity of those who suffered. Spent a lot longer than we thought because it was important to listen and learn.

The outrageous press coverage at the time was very revealing.

Very humbling, if you have the chance, see if you can have them do a mini pow wow, it was pretty cool and they are really good.
