“Nice motel in a great location.”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

This motel is within about a half-block of Wall Drug, making for a wonderfully convenient evening of shopping and dining. The owner is very friendly and runs a super-clean establishment. The bedspreads looked new, and he had just that day had the carpeting shampooed. Great, comfy beds. Very fair prices, with discounts given for senior or AAA. We will stay here whenever in Wall.

Thanks for mentioning our brand new bedspreads and freshly shampooed carpets. At the Sunshine Inn, all our fixtures and furnishings are replaced on a regular schedule to ensure that our customers consistently enjoy an evening's rest in a well-maintained and frequently updated environment. A regular schedule of steam cleaning keeps our carpets clean and odor-free, and of course all of our bedding is laundered according to an equally strict schedule. As so many of our reviewers here note, cleanliness is of paramount importance at the Sunshine Inn. As to prices, we believe that we are the value-leader in our community and invite comparison shopping to confirm that we'll give you the best deal in town. An on-site inspection of our rooms is also welcomed, as it gives us a chance to show our potential customers just how clean, fastidious and updated our rooms are. We appreciate your kind remarks and hope to see you again. Best wishes, John (owner, Sunshine Inn)

My wife and I typically enjoy bed and breakfasts on our travels. Our experience has been that they are generally cleaner and more comfortable (more amenities, etc.). However, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Sunshine Inn and found it not only clean but very conveniently located in the heart of downtown Wall. The owner, John, was most welcoming and helpful, offering his assistance with anything we needed. We highly recommend this quaint, clean inn in Wall.

If you're looking for a well appointed, fancy place to stay in Wall, this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a very clean room in a great location then this is the place. The room was very, very basic. In fact, there wasn't even a picture on the wall. However, the room was one of the cleanest I've seen with very comfortable beds. The free WiFi wokred very well too. The biggest advantage to staying at the Sunshine is the location. It's less than a short block away from Wall Drug and the shops and eateries that are close by it. The breakfast consisted of coffee, juice and sweet rolls but with the great places to walk to for breakfast this was no big deal. I would highly recommend the Sunshine Inn.

Room Tip: If you have trouble walking up and down stairs, ask for a room on the first floor. No evevator and p...

Your first few sentences neatly sum things up. We couldn't be "fancy" if we tried, and certainly don't present ourselves as anything other than an establishment that provides "a very clean room in a great location," powerful wi-fi service, comfortable beds, and a "quick start" breakfast nook with all the coffee, fresh orange juice and variety sweet rolls necessary to get your day off to a good beginning. Add in our ultra-competitive rates and you can see why so many travelers believe that the Sunshine Inn provides a high-value experience that generates positive comments here and brings in a gratifying amount of repeat business. Thank you for the forthright and descriptive remarks. We hope we'll get a chance to host you again. Best wishes, John Tsitrian (owner, Sunshine Inn)

A few years ago now, my wife and I were headed back from Arches to Wisconsin. It was late February and we were listening to weather forecasts as we drove east on I-80. We were doing fine until we hit the crest of the Rockies. From there down to Denver, the clouds rolled in and the forecasts became worse. They were forecasting blizzard conditions across Nebraska - covering I-80, our way home. By the time we got to Denver it was clear we couldn’t proceed. We decided to head north on I-25 to go around the blizzard on the north side of it. We were hoping to go around the bottom of the Black Hills and get up to I-90. We’d miss the storm and be closer to home. That worked fine until we were north of Cheyenne.

We had no cell phone service to speak of so before we left Denver, we called the Sunshine Inn in Wall, South Dakota to secure a room for the night. My thinking was that we could do that easily and get there by about seven in the evening. The storm, however, had other ideas. It was intensifying over Nebraska and the outer edges of it were spreading north. Once we got past the large towns to where there were only scattered small ranch towns, the snow got worse. Driving slowed until we were only going about thirty miles an hour at best. We got to a point where we had to turn off the interstate and cut across to the Black Hills. Finally, as we neared the Black Hills, the snow tapered off to be replaced by bitterly cold winds.

We finally pulled in to the Sunshine Inn just after eleven at night, many hours late. When we pulled up to the office, John, the owner, was on the phone as we walked in. He had been on the phone trying to contact us to see if we were all right. He said he was still holding the room for us and he had the heat cranked up so it would be toasty-warm when we walked in. We walked into number 16, crawled into a warm bed, and slept until morning.

In the interest of full disclosure I should note that for fifteen years we have stayed at the Sunshine Inn whenever we have gone out west on vacation. I mention this incident as an example of how John, the owner, treats his guests - like you are an old friend.

Thanks for recalling that incident. Life-threatening weather calls for that sort of involvement with customers who are calling in from the road. It's my pleasure to make sure their room is toasty warm and inviting on arrival. Though we no longer remain open during the winter months, I recall several incidents when I'd put on a huge pot of chili and lay out plenty of saltine crackers for stranded travelers during a blizzard when even the relatively short ride to local restaurants was out of the question--mainly because the eateries themselves weren't even open. Getting "up close and personal" with my customers during situations like that is a tradition that still stands to this day--though I must admit it's more fun getting to know people over coffee and sweet rolls at our "quick start" breakfast nook on a beautiful summer morning than during one of our legendary South Dakota blizzards! Those were the days, though, and as you attest, I've forged many a wonderful relationship during my many years of working with travelers. Thanks for the kind remarks. As ever, looking forward to seeing you again. Best wishes, John Tsitrian (owner, Sunshine Inn)

And I don't understand why anyone else would stay anyplace else either, if they had a choice. Great location, clean rooms, great price, great owners ... all adds up to a great experience.

As others have pointed out, the breakfast they offer is pretty basic, but with Wall Drug just a couple blocks away, smart travelers won't be eating breakfast at the hotels anyway.

Room Tip: No elevator, so if you don't want to lug suitcases up stairs, ask for a room on the first floor.

Your kind remarks after a second visit bring a special element of appreciation from us, considering that your prior visit was two years ago. That we gave you a favorable impression on your recent stay is most satisfying, as it reinforces our commitment to consistency and constant care and attention to the cleanliness and maintenance of our rooms and the needs of our customers. At the Sunshine Inn, we simply do not let up--and getting a second excellent opinion from you, two years removed from your first, is the kind of feedback and reinforcement that will keep us pressing forward. Thank you so much for the kind remarks. We're confident that if you care to stay with us again, your next visit will be as pleasant and value-filled as your last two. What more could you want? Sunshine Inn is conveniently located in downtown Wall. We were able to walk to dinner and shopping . Accomodations are clean and the price is right. But the thing that makes our stay here stand out in our minds after our 2 week vacation is the hospitality we received. The owner is a very nice man with a wonderful personality and makes service a priority. He was helpful in answering our questions and providing information to us. And the next morning when we got ready to leave, he had placed a towel on our motorcycle for us to dry our seats off with before we departed. We would DEFINATELY stay there again if ever in Wall.

In answer to the question you pose, we certainly couldn't want anything more in a kind and gratifying commentary about our rooms and service. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts here. We do try to go "the extra mile" when it comes to personal attention. Providing terrycloth rags to our motorcyclists for use in wiping road grime and morning dew off their bikes is just one way of letting them know we care about them and appreciate their business. We also have a hose with a pressure nozzle that can be used for washing off bikes. Helping all of our customers with their trip planning is another bit of personal attention that is especially pleasant to provide, as it gives us a chance to share our enthusiasm about the region with those who are still discovering it. All in all, we try to make a stay at the Sunshine Inn a complete experience, giving it as much of a personal touch as possible. Thanks again for the kind remarks. This was our second stay while driving to the Badlands (First time was June 2011). The Sunshine Inn is clean, well run and VERY affordable. Very comfortable (we had newer mattresses in our room!). We will stay there again any time we're in the area.

We appreciate your kind remarks, especially as they stress value and location, perhaps our two most important attributes. For a bit of clarification, I'd like to point out that a microwave and fridge are located in the office area, available for customer use from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., with free overnight storage in our fridge and freezer also available--just ask and we'll gladly accommodate you. Clocks are available on request, along with many other amenities that are listed on our "welcome sheet" on every room's credenza. We urge guests to ask us for anything, even if it isn't listed on amenities page, as many items (wine bottle openers, handicapped seats for the showers, plastic utensils, and so on) are easily obtainable on request. Thanks for noting that you'd return to the Sunshine Inn on your next visit to our area. We hope you do and eagerly look forward to having you stay with us again.
