“Good hotel for a nights stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2008

Walked in to the hotel and got a room. Checkin was very quick. The room itself was nice, comfy beds, hot water with massage head and flat screen tv. The cable wasnt the best and it was snowy (not sure if cable or tv problems). You could see it ok, but it just took away from having the flat screen. Also, in the bath, there was a couple spots of mold on the wallpaper above the shower. This is a pet peeve of mine and I've found a couple Days in particular that this has happened. I dont know why they continue to paper the baths above the shower anyway. Not a big deal, but I notice. I was able to wipe it off and notified the hotel about it. It wouldnt take much to get rid of it. Other than that, the room appeared quite clean and was quiet and comfortable. (No computer/micro/fridge) Did not make it up for breakfast so cant comment on that and it appeared the spa was closed for the night and we werent interested in using it anyway so cant review that either. If I were in the area I would stay here for a night again.

Made reservations for a 2 day stop months ago, checked to make sure that they accepted pets. Went to check in and there were signs that state that they would charge $50 if pet was left in room alone...not if the dog created a problem, simply that they would charge you if you left the dog in the room alone. Days Inn website does not mention this policy. Since the plan was to leave the dog in a comfortable room while we went to deadwood (it was over 80° outside), their policy did not allow for this. Had to cancel reservations and since all pet friendly hotels were booked, had to leave the area to find accomodations further down the road...I will never stay in a days inn again...

This is an excellent value stay. No frills, but clean and cheap. We stay in Sturgis but spend our time in Deadwood. Good, good value. We haven't been disappointed from the value side of the stay.

This motel is the worst motel I have ever stayed in. We were expecting a great motel to have a great weekend. It was South Dakota State Girls Basketball and the games were taking place in Spearfish. We were expecting a motel that would be nice and make our weekend remembering, well let me tell you what it certainly was and it wasnt just our girls being at state it was the motel. As we stayed in the motel we had a group of ten people, 3 rooms and we expecting to spend some good time with each other. Of course we were going to party because it was a state tournament and we were excited about it. The first night we stayed in the motel we got there and they told us the hot tub was broken which i cannot believe becuase what motel would have there hot tub broken on a big weekend like that one.

Also the first night were there we partied in our rooms after the game we tried being quiet and to the most part we were but if we were loud it was going to bother anyone becuase our whole floor was rented out by our town. We went down to the front desk and asked if we were loud and they told us we were fine so we figured it was good.

The next night was our last night stayin the motel and our girls had just played there last game and we werent about to leave town without having some fun. So that night we partied again this time maybe a lil louder but oh well we were in a good mood. We werent the only school at the motel partying. When it got later into the night the fire alarm got pulled and everyone had to be put outside. The next day as we were leaving the manager came and took every one of our names and phone numbers and said nothing was going to happen. We knew it wasnt our group who pulled the alarm because everyone was accounted for in one room as the alarm went off but supposively it was us.

In a week or so we recieve a bill in the mail for 500 dollars split between our group. We were pretty unhappy about this bill because our group got blaimed for pulling the alarm and we never did and the motel had no evidence of it. Like i said earlier there was other schools in the motel so i cant understand why they would bill us. When we called to talk to the manager about the bill and ask what it was about she did not tell us why. The manager hung up on us more than 3 times about the deal right away when we called to ask about it. We had respected people of our community call and get hung up on. This situation was more than out of control and we about brought the motel to small claims court. We hired a lawyer and asked if we would win and he told us the motel was wrong in every way. Althought we never went through with the small claims court we just paid the bill and moved on. Still unhappy with this motel. I will never stay in this motel again and i know this motel is located in the sturgis rally and know people love to party during that time and even if you are going to stay for a restfull weekend this MOTEL IS NOT THE ONE FOR YOU. I would Recommend any other Motel Besides this one becuase motel will just cause hardship and charge you for things that you never did.

We were driving cross country with our pet and stopped in Sturgis, SD very late at night and needed to sleep before continuing. We arrived at the Days Inn after trying 2 other pet friendlies that were booked. So, at 4am we get to the lobby and the young desk clerk has some buddies hanging out. We were a bit uncomfortable, but still needed some sleep. We asked about a late check out and she told us to call the desk after 9 to find out. Our room smelled like a kennel. The rug was so dirty my feet were black on one trip to the moldy bathroom. There was animal fur all over. When we called the front desk to ask for a late check out they said anything over an hour would be another nights' charge. I do not even think of stopping at Days Inns anymore during our very frequent travels.

Well, if you needed to be in the area you can survive here, but only if you must. $63 a night is reasonable. Breakfast was very sparse- only toast, donuts, cereal. BJ’s diner next door served up a plentiful breakfast for a reasonable price and Burger King was next door.

The noise here is unbelievable. You can hear every move in the hall or outside. People were up and about all hours of the night. If you want to sleep well, choose another place. Also there is no elevator.

We came back one night late to find out interior security latch hooked. It must have latched when the housekeepers cleaned the room. The front desk did not know how to handle it. They did provide us a large screwdriver and joined up in breaking the latch so we could get in. When we left, I felt like we were at fault. It should have been replace the next morning but it remained broken our entire stay. The 2nd room we had was broken before we got there. So much for safety!

The front desk staff were not well trained and acted as if you were interrupting them. Watch the charge for $1.50 a day automatically tacked on for the safe. You can have it removed if you ask them.

Do yourself a favor, there are many better places to stay than here.

We stayed here overnight because it was on the way to Spearfish Canyon where we were headed the next day, and hotels seem to be really scarce in this area. We've had some varied experiences with Days Inns -- from great (in the Carolinas) to below horrible (in Brunswick, GA and Tybee Island, GA)....and we really try to avoid them. When we'vecomplained, corporate says they are franchises and the response is ho-hum. So you have no recourse if the experience is bad.

THis hotel appeared to be a better choice than the Super 8 across the street. There didn't seem to be much activity, so we thought it might be closed. Inside, carpet was being installed and the woman at the desk was totally uninterested in us. We asked if they were open ..."that's why I'm here" she mumbled. We asked if they had rooms. "Yeah, but you'll have to go upstairs".....(they offer a continental breakfast, but she failed to mention that) so in spite of her we decided to stay, but were prepared to bail ....the room was pleasingly clean and updated and had everything we needed for the short time we were there. When they get the place back together after obvious remodelng, it will be a pasable place to bed down if you are touring in South Dakota. Hopefully by then management will hjave discovered their front desk is driving folks away and maybe have made some changes. Front desk clerks are ambassadors for the hotel as well as for the area. This one was no credit to either. For the record: We found all the South Dakota residents we met (with this exception) to be warm, friendly, helpful folks - at airports, car rental, restaurants and shops. The state has a lot to offer. This hotel OK for "crash and dash" but definitely not where you'd want to spend much time.
