I used TripAdvisor to search for and select hotels for our cross country trip this summer and was very disappointed when we actually arrived at this one. It was the only truly bad accomodation experience we had in two weeks of travelling from East Coast to West.
First, we had booked weeks ahead and requested a crib in the room and also gave a reminder closer to the date -- never showed. No explanation given.
Second, as we were on the road with two small children (ten months and 5 years) getting a good nights sleep was vital to everyone's good humor and sanity. Not possible at this place -- at 4:30 am right outside our window were treated to five LONG minutes of crashing, rumbling, ear-splitting noise due to trash pick up of several commercial size trash bins being loaded into the dump truck. Why this has to be done at 4:30 am, I don't know. But worse, why are the trash bins located right outside of guest rooms!?
As we were on the road for so long and out of touch with family, we only booked hotels/motels that promised free high speed internet access. This was promised in ads by the Best Western Ramkota hotel. Upon arrival, we searched high and low. Finally, we called front desk for assistance and were given a detailed description of how to access the internet -- plug in a phone cord to the standard phone outlet and use a dial up number. Dial up is not high speed, and it provides nothing unless you have a dial up service provider to use, which we did not. Nothing was offered to accomodate us.
And finally, upon check-out in the morning. I paid the bill in full. Then I told the front desk staff, politely mind you, that we had a few concerns that we wanted to share. Blank stare. Ok, fine, I went ahead and expressed my concerns anyway. Defensive, rude attitude was all that I received as she proceeded to tell me they do not promise high-speed internet and that they can't do anything about trash pick up. Well, then I showed her the advertisement that actually did show the promise of high speed internet access -- "Well, I've never seen that before."
I won't even go in to all the rudeness I was treated to. But at that point, I figured I better put down my comments in writing for the manager and asked for paper to do so. She grumpily complied with my request.
After our visit, I also emailed the hotel chain directly to ensure that my comments were received. About 40 days and counting -- still waiting for any kind of reply.
On the positive side, the room was mostly clean, the pool was clean and towels readily available. Also, we did not find the pool to be crowded at all, as some have noted -- we visited it at 5:30-6:30pm though.
I doubt I could be persuaded to stay here again.
