“Keeps Improving”
Reviewed February 18, 2014

I visited for the first time in about 5 years and was happy to see the new fish exhibits. It made our trip more worthwhile to have the variety of the butterfly house and the fish. We had fun walking around inside on a very cold winter's day. I hope they continue to expand!

“Better than ever”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The flight room's 1,000 butterflies have been joined by over a dozen button quail to entertain kids and adults alike (they also help keep the ants and bugs in check). Butterflies from El Salvador, Ecuador, Malaysia, Suriname, The Philippines, and Costa Rica fly freely in the flight room -- if you wear brightly colored closthes, you hava a better chance of them landing on you. Eight-degree temperatures are a good place to be, especially when it's cold outside. In the marine cove, work is ongoing for a Caribbean reef and a tidal pool. Horn sharks, bamboo sharks, horseshoe crabs and southern stingrays are in the touch pool. Fresh water and salt water aquariums include cichlids from Africa, lion fish, white-mouth moray eels, zeba eels, Australian stone fish, Nemo & Dori, sea anemones, upside-down jellyfish, brittle sea stars, golden Tonga dog-faced puffer, queen angel fish, emperor re grouper, Indian sailfin tang, and more. Seahorses will also be coming back on exhibit soon. There is a library with hundreds of books and toys for the kids, as well as a theater room to view a series of seven short 5-7 minute films about the butterfly house & marine cove, a wall of over 300 species of butterflies and moths that have livewd in the butterfly flight room, gift shop and restrooms. Nearby Sertoma Park also offers a venue for picnics and kids to blow off some energy.

“Fun place to visit with smaller kids”

We were heading to the Black Hills but were looking for something to do for a few hours to break up our drive. This was a great stop. We all enjoyed the butterflies and the aquarium. This is a fun, family stop where you can expect to spend a couple of hours.

“Best place to go when there is snow outside!”

We love this place! Where else can you go in Sioux Falls to see blooming flowers and colorful butterflies when it's below 0 out? The staff have always been helpful and cheerful making our visit all the more relaxing. People of all ages we have taken here and not one has left without a smile on their face.

We decided to go out for the day and the butterfly house was somewhere we hadn't been before. It was beautiful place to visit. Very calming and tranquil. We sat and just took it all in.

They have also added in a splash pool for seeing fish and being able to touch them. This area was very informative.

I hope they add more to it over the years to come.
