“The Best In Rapid City”
Reviewed July 20, 2007

Folks, this is about the best in Rapid City. We stayed at the hotel for seven days during a motorcycle trip through the Black Hills and Badlands. Because of its centralized location, it was a great hotel to use as a base of operations. Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments were within close proximity (i.e., approximately 25 minutes). Hill City, Deadwood, Sturgis, Spearfish, Custer and Hot Springs were also within close proximity.

We had a room on the top floor facing away from the railroad tracks. The rooms on the 9th floor offer more privacy as only card holders have access to the floor via the elevators. Although there was some noise from the nearby clubs, it wasn't bad at all. In fact, it was just noticeable on Fridays and Saturdays. We didn't use the pool and avoided the restaurant based on prior Tripadvisor reviews.

The staff was very pleasant, especially the shuttle drivers. As for dining near the hotel, it's not too bad. Check out the Fire House, which is usually packed each night, or Sanford's. Both restaurants offer great food and are within walking distance (i.e., two blocks).

Would I stay here again... absolutely.

The Radisson offers a very good location in Rapid City and the rooms are really spacious and very clean. The beds are comfortable and we had no trouble with noise in the hotel.

The large rooms are unfortunately the only positive note about this hotel. We were charged an exorbiant amount for a quick call to Canada which was far more than we have ever paid in any other hotel. We tried to use the pool in the evening but there were several loud kids running around which the staff did nothing about. Our bathroom door was jammed and made a loud noise everytime we closed it which woke us up during the night.

When these points were brought to the attention of the staff they seemed to want to help but after talking with their manager were not able to offer us any type of discount or even an apology. The management has done a great job in hiring staff but do a poor job of making their customers happy when something goes wrong.

  • Liked — Large clean rooms
  • Disliked — Lack of desire by management to provide solutions to customer problems

Rooms were outstanding and taken care of nicely. The beds were very comfortable but it was hard to get to sleep with the loud music coming from one of the outside clubs. The pool was not very good. There always seemed to be some kind of function going on during open pool hours. One day they did not open the pool until 2:00 for some function. Aren't there banquet rooms for that? The hot tub was absolutely filthy. Overall the serivce was average. I would come back but not with the kids who really want to spend a lot of time in the pool.

  • Liked — Room accomodations
  • Disliked — Pool being used for way too many outside functions ie. Nurse's Conference

The Radisson in Rapid City is adequate but not great. The room was typical. The service was pleasant. The dining at the hotel restaurant named Enigma was uneven and an enigma. One evening I ordered Veal Piccatta Milanese. At $23.00 I expected to get a nice cut of veal but received what appeared to be a breaded veal patty in a white sauce. There was no hint of any piccatta flavor. The two days we had brunch, the eggs and meats were lukewarm even though we ate within 30 minutes of the restaurant opening. From past experiences at other Radissons we expected more.

I was pleasantly suprised not only by the Radisson, but by the town of Rapid City itself. We found the hotel staff to be very friendly & helpful. The Sleep Number beds were great & the room was larger than expected. One thing I was pleasantly surprised to find is that use of the internet in the business center was complimentary. We were also thrilled to find that the business center is open 24/7. So many hotels charge for this now or have the center open during daytime hours only when most people are out sightseeing. Also the hotel is with in walking distance to a good Italian restaurant & the Firehouse Restaurant. Both had great food & the Firehouse also had live music! I will be sure to visit Rapid City & the Radisson again.

We really enjoyed our stop at this hotel. The hotel is decorated very nicely, the rooms were very clean and the staff was very helpful. We stayed 2 nights and would definately return and recommend this hotel. It was central to our visiting the area. We saw Mount Rushmore - Terrific site and we saw the Badlands - another terrific place. We played mini golf at the Putz and Glo - a blacklight indoor mini golf course. Very different - the kids loved it. We drove Needles Highway - that was amazing and then drove the wildlife loop. It was disappointing, we saw no animals until the end and then we saw 3 mules. We even drove one of the off roads and still nothing - I think it is all timing and our timing was off that day I guess. Overall great visit to the area and it started off with a great stay at the Radisson.

  • Liked — Clean and attractive
  • Disliked — can't think of anything
  • Tips/Secrets — we took the sleep number mattresses available in some of the rooms. Slept great.

My neighbor and I stayed at the Radisson for three nights as part of the Caravan tour group. The Caravan tour was excellent. We arrived a day early before the tour and wanted something to do for the day. The front desk folks tried to book us a local tour but was unsuccessful. Tom at the front desk, who was very nice, suggested we rent a car for a trip to the Badlands. This was a great idea. He arranged a car through Black Hill Rentals, and Jon from the rental agency picked us up and we were able to use the car for the day and then leave it at the hotel. The Badlands was an easy drive and a "must see." We found the buffet breakfast at the hotel to be very good and at a reasonable price. The music during the breakfast buffet was also an added plus. The front desk also gave us a list of neighbor places to eat. There are quite a few within a short walking distance. We tried Sanford and Son, which is an unique experience. We also tried Boticelli, which I really enjoyed. (The strawberry salad was superb) This is an italian Restaurant and the food was excellent. The hotel has sleep number beds, which we found were more of a novelty. We kept on trying different sleep numbers but could not find a good combination. The Radisson also has free internet but not in your room. You use the computer in the gift shop. This also was an added plus. We found the Radisson to be not as elegant as some of the other palces we stayed on the tour, but it was indeed a great place to stay.
