“Perfect place to stay in the Black Hills”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2011

Mystery Mountain Resort is located in the Black Hills. They have all you can eat pancakes each morning in the summer for $1 and they also offer other breakfast items. It is very close to all the main attractions. Minutes away from Keystone, Mt. Rushmore, caves, and many more attractions.
We stayed in a 3 bedroom cabin that slept 10. It had closets and dressers in each bedroom. It had a kitchen with everything you needed. Our cabin even had a piano and that was a big hit with the kids. They also had satellite tv.
The bathrooms had showers/tubs and the staff supplied fresh towels every morning. The bathrooms were also stocked with shampoo, lotions, and toilet paper. The staff emptied the garbage every morning and were very helpful with anything you needed. The cabins had grills, decks, and fire pits. You could watch the sunrise over the black hills from your deck and enjoy a fire and roast marshmallows each night.
Mystery Mountain has a pool and hot tub, horeshoe pit, basketball and play area, mini golf and walking trails. They have so much to do at the resort you don't have to leave. There are even laundry facilities.
The management/staff are very friendly and can help you with anything. The store has everything you need or the stuff you forgot when you left home.
Our family had such a great time that our youngest son told us we had to stay 2 weeks next time.
Thank You Mystery Mountain for a vacation my family will never forget. THANKS!!

Mystery Mountain Resort is perfectly located near the heart of the Mount Rushmore area in the Black Hills. It offers camping for tenters to the largest RVs, and comfortable air conditioned, completely furnished cabins that sleep up to 14 people! Through most of the summer season you can start your day with delicious all-you-can-eat pancakes each morning for $1...they also offer other ala carte breakfast items.
We held a family reunion in July...taking advantage of the various sized cabins that fit our individual needs. Those we rented each had a fully furnished kitchen with full sized stove, refrigerator and a dining area! The living areas were spacious with comfortable furniture and tvs. The bedrooms were also furnished with comfortable beds, dressers and even closets! The bathrooms had either showers or tubs and the staff supplied us with fresh towels, shampoos and lotions everyday. There are decks, grills and fire pits at each cabin, so our campfires were a huge hit at the end of the day.
Mystery Mountain has a large pool and hot tub, horeshoe pit, basketball and play area, mini golf and walking trails. There's even a 'mystery house' . The resort store offers all the things you forgot to pack, plus firewood and ice. There are complete laundry facilities and shelter houses that are available for large group gatherings, equipped with electricity and sound. We held a pot luck one night for 62 people!!
I can't say enough good things about Art and his staff at Mystery Mountain. Everyone is so friendly, you soon feel like family! Any question or request is quickly addressed. The cabins were absolutely immaculate! The staff checks in daily to remove the trash, replace the towels in the bathrooms and kitchens, and offer anything else you could want or might need.
We had such a fantastic time at Mystery Mountain...there were tears when it was time to leave, and we can't wait to go back again!!

Room Tip: Check out the website to determine which cabin will best serve your needs...they sleep from 4-14 peo...

We stayed four nights in a camper cabin in July 2011. The cabins were adequate and very clean. The whole resort was very tidy and the employees were always very friendly. The $1 pancake breakfast every morning was delicious!

Room Tip: make your reservation well in advance as the place seemed very busy during our stay

Our extended family recently stayed at Mystery Mountain. We are so very happy for having booked our trip at this resort. The management and staff are great, great people. It wasn't unusual for the staff to stop and talk to us or see what the kids were cooking on the fire. It is a very friendly, family oriented place. Our children loved the pool, the mini golf, the playground, basketball hoops, and horseshoes. The Mountain Grill breakfasts are fantastic. Their breakfast burritos are second to none! And what kid doesn't like all you can eat pancakes? We enjoyed the cabins better than a hotel because it allowed us all to sit around a fire at night and discuss all the beautiful things we saw in the Black Hills that day. In a hotel, we all would have been couped up in our rooms. This experience is so much better. The cabins were well maintained and clean. The pool was clean and was a perfect place to spend a hot afternoon. The resort is perfectly located to access everything there is to do in the Black Hills. For us, it was a perfectly central place. We would like to thank the staff at Mystery Mountain Resort for helping to make our family vacation one we will always remember. If we ever travel to the Black HIlls again, there will be nowhere else that we will stay! Whatever we needed, it was taken care of. Thank you for that.

This was a great place to stay..We camped (in our camper) there for 5 nights...It is a beautiful place to be especially when hot because it is on the side of a hill (mountain?) and there is a breeze most of the time. The people were friendly....it was quiet there in the evenings and so relaxing after a long day of sight seeing..The pool was cold but felt colder because the weather was so hot (100 degrees). So refreshing to take a dip. The showers were fantastic...clean. And the pancakes were awesome!!!! They had mini-golf, a basketball hoop and horseshoes...(oh and hot tub). Close to a lot of activities...Mt. Rushmore.....water slides....go carts...Bear Country....not too far from Wind Cave and Custer State Park....Super Great!!! The towering pines were so fragrant!! Would go there again in a heartbeat!!!

After a long drive with my family we arrived with excitement to begin our time in what looked to be a beautiful place. Unfortunately the man at the counter was not so happy to see us or answer any of our questions. We began to check in and apparently the reserved room was not large enough for our group by code. We brought our pack and play which more or less disgusted him. We were not offered to upgrade but to find somewhere else to stay. So after an eight hours drive we had to find somewhere else to stay. Thank goodness the campground down the road..Happy Holidays…was amazing! Amazing staff and more than happy to answer our questions. Oh to top the story off, this rude man was the OWNER!!! Don’t waste your money here!!

Room Tip: very rude owner

First, the conversation that took place was with the manager, not the owner. Second, this was nothing but a ruse and attempt to be upgraded to one of our largest Cabins, from one of our smallest Cabins, at the same rate of the smallest Cabin.
It’s unfortunate that this young lady didn’t notice the security cameras, which recorded the entire conversation. Documenting, that this comment is categorically and completely untrue and without merit.

Stayed 4 days/nights. Rented 2 cabins which were side by side. Each had 3 bedrooms. Very clean and quiet. Just outside of Rapid City - close to everything we wanted to see. The ages in our group were 4 months to 55 years (there were 12 of us). Plenty to see in the Black Hills. Very affordable vacation. Will certainly be back in the future. Unable to rate the swimming due to the time of year (too cool). Also the restaurant wasn't open but we cooked our own meals in our kitchens.
