We enjoyed our stay here. We spent 3 nights in Custer and attended the Black Hills Powwow. It was great. The hotel is clean and the staff is great. On the second night, we had some noisy neighbors and the staff moved us immediately upon our request. They were so attentive. The breakfast was good and they have a waffle iron. There are a lot of kids here because it is attached to a water park. We didn't use the water park because it was mostly for kids and it was so crowded. The only thing they need to fix...they need new chairs at the business center. Two of them are broken. The chairs are so low and don't adjust upwards. You are almost sitting on the floor when you use the computer.

I was very disappointed with our stay at this hotel in July 2009 and I am typically happy with the Marriott brand. We were in the area to visit Mt. Rushmore and booked it a few days earlier online. The location is not convenient to any restaurants, shopping, etc.---you are basically at the edge of Rapid City and need to get back on the Interstate to find a place to eat. Perhaps if the room rate had been lower it might have been a better review, but the rate I paid was too high for an average room at a below average location. This particular hotel is an average hotel with a small water park (in a building) attached to another hotel. There is not much else around the immediate area. So unless you get a great deal, my advice is to look elsewhere.

Nice room, quiet, clean and comfortable beds. The kids liked the water park, which was attached to the hotel. Large continental breakfast and couteous service.

This hotel met but did not exceed my expectations. The bed was particularly comfortable. The hotel is entirely non-smoking, which is great. The breakfast was standard--cereal, yogurt and the omnipresent waffle machines. I didn't check out the adjacent indoor water park, which connects this hotel to a LaQuinta.

We stayed 4 nights at the hotel and waterpark, and bought water passes 3 times. 2 out of 3 times 50% of the park was closed, and we where not able to get a refund. They have a form you sign each time you use the park. On it they say no refund if you leave the hotel or check out early. I spoke to several people to resolve this and the manager (William Day) at the waterpark was not willing to refund us even though we were there and did not check out. The hotel and staff were amazing and apologized several times, but it was not their decision. I would recomend the hotel, just beware of the park managment.

The Fairfield Inn was just what we were looking for to take a five day vacation in the Badlands. It was perfect to serve as our hub for for our day trips. We started each morning with a continental breakfast and was off. We went to the Badlands, Custer, Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Wind Caves National Park, Spearfish Canyon and everything in between. They could always answer our questions and if not found someone who could. There is a water park hooked to this hotel which is an extra fee but being empty nesters out to see the country we did not take advantage of this. I would recommend this hotel for location and service if you are in the Rapid City area.
