“a great value in a small independent hotel”
Reviewed October 19, 2009

We stayed at Foothills Inn for 2 nights and couldn't believe the quality of the hotel - esp. for the price! The location is great - just off the freeway and convenient to the airport. The rooms were spacious and clean and had all the amenities you would want - cable TV, internet access, free breakfast, knowledgable staff, etc. The bathroom blue tiles were dated, but everything worked well and who really cares? What a value!! We love 'local' hotels and this one ranks at the top of our list!!!

In light of trying to keep costs down this summer with vacationing, discovered this place which had great reviews and decent price compared to other hotels in the area. A short 5 minute drive to downtown. A good half way point between mount rushmore, black hills, and badlands, only about a half hour drive to all three. Outdoor pool was a nice bonus, we would lounge there for a bit after a long day of sightseeing. Free trolley pickup also nearby within walking distance that shuttles to downtown rapid city. Room was clean and maid service everyday. Bathroom and rug could benefit from an update, but not by any means a dealbreaker for us. Relatively quiet, most people like us gone during the day and really only at the hotel to sleep. One thing that seemed like false advertisement was the fitness center...which consists of 20 year old equipment, and only a treadmill and eliptical. No weights or other machines.Convienent location, Restaurant in hotel next door, right off the highway, easy to get to. Not the Ritz Carlton, but would definitely recommend for the quality and price!

I stayed at the Foothills for 4 nights. I chose it for price, location, and because of it's overall good reviews. I was not disappointed. The Inn is very clean and family friendly. It isn't fancy but it's very comfortable. It is close to many good restaurants, good shopping, and easy highway access for traveling to the many tourist sites in the area. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and they took time to help me plan some of my day trips. I would happily stay here again, whether with my family or by myself.

We stayed at this great hotel enroute to the Black Hills. It couldn't have been a more perfect intro to SD - spotless room, quiet surroundings despite being on the main road, very comfy bed, good breakfast, free internet on the lobby computer, and especially the VERY accommodating and friendly folks who work there. They gave us great suggestions and directions so we could explore the city. They even let us use their computer a week later and offered to print our boarding passes. Super experience in all regards.

We spent two nights at the Foothills Inn (7 & 8 Aug). We arrived in the evening and had no problems with check-in. It was during the last few days of the Sturgis Bike Rally. As you can imagine all of the prices of lodging goes up accordingly. Compared to the other hotels in the area, the prices were great. I'm sure it would be less if the Sturgis Bike Rally is not going on. The location is perfect, we had easy access to Hwy. 90 and other main roadways. It was next to a Perkins which had a great breakfast. You could get to most diner's and eatery's within 1/2 mile or less.
I had no trouble with the staff, they were helpful and gave us great dinner recommendations.
We booked two rooms for my family. My fiance has a hard time sleeping outside of our home. She had a great stay and the beds were comfortable.
Overall, this was a great stay.
I've read previous reviews and had no trouble with staff, cleanliness, or room cleaners. We hung the "do not disturb" signs on our doors and had no surprise wake-up's or early knock's on the door.
Thanks!
PS. Being that this was bike week, it was surprisingly quiet and everyone there respected everyone's privacy.

First of all, we really don't complain much. We are pretty laid back so when I give this review it is an honest interpretation of our stay. We were greeted with a very rude front desk staff who did not smile and pointed the rack of brochures when we asked about local attractions. She didn't even say anything, just pointed! She warned us very rudely that if we even thought about smoking or having a pet in a non-smoking room that we would be charged $100. We got to our room and it was large however the coverlets were stained and filthy, the light and fan was out in the bathroom, the coffeemaker wasn't cleaned (grounds still left in there) and there was BLOOD on the pillow with a fresh pillowcase put over it. (you could see the red stains through the fresh pillowcase!) The bedding was worn and the floor stained however the room did not smell and the walls were reasonably thick so we didn't hear our neighbors much. Over the four days we stayed, we had to ask for a full set of towels and washclothes each day. We even left a note for housekeeping to say we needed 5 of each and they sometimes left us 3 sometimes 2 washclothes and 4 towels etc. We never had 5 plastic cups either. The front desk staff was the rudest women I have ever done business with. One complained about the housekeeping staff to us, one blamed us for our deactivated keys (we must have held both keys too close to a cell phone- when in actually, they were deactived early by mistake), one said she didn't know of a good dinner place because she never gets to eat out. She told us to look in the phonebook if we wanted information about food. Another frontdesk person berated guests because they chose to go swimming in the small outdoor pool at 9:45pm. "Who do some people think they are?" She stated to us because the pool closed at 10pm. We were told when we made the reservations that the pool closed at 11PM so I could understand if others thought that too.
Breakfast was a joke. A "cereal bar" consisted of Raisen bran, Grapenuts, and a Honey oats cereal. The 2% milk was gone in the first hour, we saw a few people with muffins however they were never there when we were and the coffee machine broke so they didn't provide coffee (even though Perkins was next door and they got their muffins from there.) A loaf of white bread and a tub a butter was available. Nothing for kids.
We were on a tight budget so we paid $94.00 a night for this room. Not worth it! There are other places that we heard about from other travelers that were less money or even a few dollars more that would actually appreciate having you as a guest. The Foothills should have paid their guests to stay there!
