This free museum is located on the campus of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. It's worth a stop if you have time while in Rapid City. They exhibits are dated in terms of style, but they have some neat skeletons and gem samples.

This attraction was not on our list of places to visit while in the Rapid City area, but the weather was cold and rainy for several days. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the extensive collection of fossils, minerals, and artifacts. I especially liked the glow room (certain minerals glow under black light).

This out-of-the-way museum is an absolute must-see, if you are visiting the area. There are numerous dinosaur and ancient mammalian skeletons on display, as well as fossil fish, birds, plants, and many extinct vertebrates and invertebrates. In addition, there is a vast rock and mineral collection. Both adults and children will enjoy this free attraction.
