Owner description: To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

What a wonderful store. As another reviewer put it: "Like shopping in a museum. " This is not a discount place and there is no "junk" sold here. Only top drawer goods at prices reasonable for what you get. Definitely worth the visit even if you only window shop.

A cornucopia of all things indian in the area. Jewelery, beadwork, books, prints etc. as well as wonderful displays of indian bison robes and other items. Worth the time to investigate and see even if you don't buy.

“Beautiful Merchandise, Great Service”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

We stopped in the Prairie Edge Trading Co at the end of our trip to buy presents to take home. Thank goodness! It has the best quality and range of merchandise I saw anywhere in South Dakota, Wyoming, or Montana. A very patient salesperson on the jewelry counter helped me make my final decisions. And the salesperson in the crafting area was also very knowledgeable and helpful. The Indian art was exceptional and beautifully displayed. All around great experience!

“Like shopping in a museum”
Reviewed June 26, 2014

Prairie Edge was one of the highlights of our trip to the Dakotas. It is a huge store and art gallery where hundreds of Native American reproductions are displayed and sold. If you are interested in Native American history and culture, this is a must see when in Downtown Rapid City. I am normally not a shopper, but spent over $300 here.

“Very Unique store and friendly helpful employees”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

A must stop and see store if you are in the area! Make it a point to stop by this store. This is the store we buy all of our Native American craft supplies from. They also added a herb selection and I am totally hooked on these now! I always have to walk threw the whole store to see what they have added. It is a new store every time and it takes a good hour to look at and admire everything in there. The employees go above and beyond to help you find what you need. I rate it as one of the top attractions in the area.
