I struggled giving it a 1 star or 2. Old funky hotel. No breakfast. I had a swarm of flies and bugs in my room and no hot water (took cold shower). They moved me to a similar no frills room. The mattress on the beds were good. Old scratchy towels... not sure why people rated it higher. Maybe there is nothing else in town or they don't get out much. Thin walls and loud club on the weekends. Paper thin walls.

Room Tip: Don't stay in 405

I've been to the restaurant twice–two years apart–with family who live in the area. First time, deplorable food on their Asian night (I think they were trying to serve a Chinese dish.) Second time last week. We were two couples, each with a coupon that supposedly was buy one, get one free. Because we were all seated at the same table, they only subtracted the cost of one entree–the cheapest–which reduced the bill a whopping $4.99. Pasta chicken dishes (at around $13.00 each) were swimming in some type of white sauce, although one was supposedly chicken Gorgonzola and the other was chicken Marsala. More like Pasta soup. No effort to please customer. Rude and dismissive. Never again.

Room Tip: No info on rooms, only restaurant.

We stay at this hotel every time we go to Deadwood for the weekend. The hotel is always very accomodating and clean. The rooms have been remodeled and are very nice. The beds are awesome! The price is ALWAYS lower than the other hotels in Lead and Deadwood. They also have a limo service for a very reasonable price, that will take you to and from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Stayed here for one night, not bad, beds only had one pillow which didn't help, no fridge and the ice machine on my floor was broken, the free wifi was useless and you could use it due to the poor connection. Other then these negatives it was a bed and it was clean.

...but I really had no choice since this was what the bus tour group accomodation was for the night. It's a large hotel with 1 elevator, but since we were only on the third floor, it was easier to just take the stairs.

The room was tired but the beds clean. The sink was located outside of the bathroom (toilet and shower) but facing the beds. It made it rather uncomfortable to have to shimmy between bed and the sink counter to get ready in the morning.

There is a grocery store across the street, which is where we picked up our chicken and salad for dinner that night. The grocery store closes at 9 or 9:30pm.

For entertainment options, there is also a restaurant adjacent to the hotel that seems to offer music. The bus tour leader mentioned that there is a shuttle that can transport people to nearby Deadwood for the night for gambling.

The reason for my low rating was that we didn't seem to be able to contact the hotel staff at all. I think there should at least be a sign to indicate when the front desk had hours. We had been told by our tour group leader that there was a work out room we could utilize but we could not find it, nor was there anyone we were able to ask at the front desk. My dad and I eventually figured it out (there is a YMCA next door and the weight room is in the basement-there is an underground tunnel that connects it to the hotel basement).
Also, the swimming pool in the YMCA was closed for renovation and will be for a while (can't recall the time frame).

I understand since this part of South Dakota is not very populated and thus shuts down at night, but since this facility bills itself as a conference center, I believe that hotel personnel should be more visible.

One elevator for the whole building - had to wait. Market across the street. No bath mat or hand rail for the bathtub. Spacious room. The sink was outside the bathroom and next to a bed, which was a nuisance.

Lobby appearance is good but it was downhill from there. The bed was made but the sheets were dirty. The floor was not vaccuumed, dirt and crumbs were on the floor and in the bed. The front desk employee swithced us to a clean room. Other people on our tour experienced the same thing with their rooms. The restaurant didn't open on time for us to eat breakfast before leaving because the cook didn't show up for work. They didn't appear to have any experienced management skills.
