We had six adults and six children. We purchased the "underground" mining tour as well as mining for gold. (The tour was in the basement.) The tour was about 40 minutes. It covered interesting information. Our grands from 11 to 3 were just as interested as the adults. Worth the money.

The outside is fantastic with many examples of mining equipment to enjoy, including a locomotive/

It was inside that our disappointment began. The museum is free ( donation requested ) however, when we asked to go to mine for gold we were told that that it was an extra charge. We then asked to tour the mine exhibit and were told that it was an extra charge. When I asked where the museum was, we were told and I quote " You are standing in it" We were standing the lobby.

We thanked them, left a dollar returned to our car.

I do not know if the mine tour or mining for gold would have been worthwhile as I did not wish to pay extra for a museum that was advertised as free.

Have lots of mining gear and different exhibits depicting the history of mining. There are many models of mine structures from the western days plus exhibits showing how the old mining equipment used to work. The basement is set up to look just like you are down in a mine shaft. The people at the museum are very friendly and helpful. Well worth the stop!!
