Delicious food, friendly service, breathtaking views! On one night, we strolled in around 8:30 looking for coffee. They happily sat us on the canyon view deck and kept our mugs filled.

Stopped to have breakfast at latchstring inn a few weeks ago while visiting the area. The biscuits and gravy were amazing as were the omlets and pancakes. Service was great. Enjoyed the outside scenery where enjoying the great food that was served. Other than the food our sever, Sarah, was very friendly and informational about the area. I think this server needs to be recognized for her outstanding service, kindness and friendliness.

Strike 1: Menu online doesn't match actual menu. This matters to people with specific diets. Strike 2: Salad came with wrong dressing...correct dressing requested, and came FIFTEEN minutes later. Strike 3: THIRTY minutes after ordering, we were told they were out of one of our dishes. We got up left. Save yourself the trouble and drive down the road to Cheyenne Crossing or Spearfish.

I was excited to stop as we had driven by a year before on trip. The building is a handcrafted log structure in the middle of Spearfish Canyon. After seeing so much beautiful scenery - trees, cliff, mountains, running water, fresh air; it just seemed like this would be the perfect spot to relax and take it all in. Wednesday evening, the restaurant wasn't very busy so we didn't have to wait very long. We ordered a few appetizers - which were decent but a little overpriced for what we received. Most of us had steaks which were cooked about right. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and bland, the corn looked like canned corn with a little seasoning. The dinner salad - brownish lettuce with a small portion of salad dressing. We also had some muffins before our meal - bland and stiff...I think the waitress said they were made with beer. Our waitress probably should have been working in bar - nice gal but not the right place. I appears that the place is not being managed. Some random guy is in the back cooking whatever is on the menu and the waiting staff is just trying to make it work. I'm not a foodie or a fine dinning type of person so I'm not very critical. I really wanted to like the place. But for a $40 meal, it was a disappointing experience. I hope this was an off night or they get it together soon.

Third year in a row we tried lunch there. Very disappointed, again. Ordered Bison stew. The Bison stew had 4 large balls of potato and a few pieces of celery, NO Bison Meat at all. It was served with corn cakes which were raw on the inside. Not undercooked, RAW. The service was terrible, the wait staff seemed to be well trained in ignoring the customer. We will not eat there again and are advising others no go on down the road.
