“Wonderful evening”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

Stopped by and the host sat us right at the window with a beautiful view. Dan was our waiter and did an outstanding job. Good wine, garlic steak, ravioli, salmon and walleye. Also warm beer battered muffins. Decent prices too.

“couldn't get in to eat”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

Sunday, September 30, 9:30 AM.
Drove from Deadwood to Spearfish Canyon via Cheyenne crossing - beautiful fall colors.
Stopped at the Latchstring to eat and see Spearfish Falls.
Walked in the front door and a sign on the left said please wait to be seated. Dining room was busy, BUT NOT FULL.
Waited to be seated, waited to be seated, waited to be seated.
I continously poked my head into the dining room and several times the staff noticed me, but no one came over to seat us. All 4 of us stood in the doorway and no one seated us. After 20 minutes we left.
On the way out a group of 5 people were entering so I told them what happened. We walked the nature trail to the falls and ran into the same group that told us they also could not get seated.
They followed us into Spearfish and we all ate at Perkins next to I90.
We had planned to cross the road to the Savoy Lodge and make reservations for Christmas - butwe decided to go elsewhere for the Holiday if this is the only place in the area to eat.

“Closest to Spearfish Canyon Lodge”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Across the street from the lodge. Menu had nice range of choices and wine selections. Service was excellent, even by the trainees. Food was prepared correctly. Have a small problem with flies at breakfast due to bright sunshine.

“Best Lunch Surprise”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

We traveled by motorcycle through the canyon and happened upon the Latchstring. We decided to try it, wonderful lunch. I had the Buffalo Stew and it was hearty and good. We sat on the back deck and had a wonderful view of the Black Hills. A beautiful setting, friendly service, good food. We loved our lunch here.

“Food Mediocre, Menu Limited”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Too bad the food & menu doesn't match the beautiful setting.
Menu has very limited items.
At least 4 things we ordered they did not have available.
No good salad choices. Didn't eat more than 3 bites of a pitiful salad that was $8.99 -- and they didn't even offer to take it off my bill.
Pasta dish was simply edible.
Staff was working hard and trying hard despite the issues with the kitchen.
We are locals and it isn't worth the drive for the food here.
