Americas Best Value Inn
Ranked #1 of 6 Hotels in Kadoka
Reviewed July 9, 2014

Judging by exterior appearance, this is the nicest hotel in Kadoka, and that's why we chose it. Travelling from the east, it is very conveniently located for a visit to Minuteman Missile
National Historic Site or the Badlands.

The receptionist was friendly, and check-in was quick. Our first impression of the room was good; it looked modern and clean. The TV got all the good channels (Discovery, History, A&E...). The shower was hot. Breakfast was free with cereal, biscuits and gravy, and other choices. So far so good.

The reason this was only a 3-star stay is because the comforter on one bed was dirty, and when it comes to hotels, what is more important than the cleanliness of the bed? Also, atop the towl stack and underneath the spare TP roll, sat a short-n-curly hair. Last and least, the plumbing fixtures looked rusty, although I think they were just so old that the chrome was worn off.

I still think this is the best place to stay in Kadoka, but you need to go in with realistic expectations or you will probably be disappointed.

Although I was coming from the east for a trip to the Badlands, I initially considered staying in Wall based on both the hotel and restaurant reviews I had read for Kadoka. However, I'm glad I didn't bother. This hotel and breakfast at Jiggers restaurant were perfectly fine. The room was clean and what I would consider a standard hotel room with 2 queen beds. I would have probably rated this a 4 instead of a 3 except for the high price and noise heard from people walking in the room above. We skipped the continental breakfast because we wanted pancakes and eggs. Ask for a second floor room and you should be ok.

Kadoka is a very small town and frankly there isn't much there, but we'd read the other reviews knowing this and also after speaking to a helpful girl at a rest area. The Inn is right next door to a Subway, another decent place to eat, and a gas station. The Inn is also right next to the interstate too, but there is very little traffic late at night and early in the morning, so we didn't hear any road noise. We were heading to the Badlands as soon as we got rolling in the morning. We needed a pet friendly room and they had one. I think the fee was an extra $10. Pet friendly rooms are vinyl not carpet, so be prepared for that. The floor was very clean and it was like fake wood pergo flooring and we liked how clean it was. Beds were very comfy and all else was good. We had better TV channels here than we did anywhere else on our road trip and this was a nice surprise. The lady at the front desk, Mary, was very nice and we liked her. Breakfast was very good in the morning, biscuits and gravy, and egg & cheese on flatbread. Coffee was very good too.

Room Tip: If you have a pet, they'll give you a room close to the exit and downstairs, so you won't ha...

We were able to book a room here via Priceline and got a good deal and it was totally worth it. Others thought so too as the hotel was booked for the night. Everything is very clean, seems to have a fresh coat of paint in the rooms. The biggest thing we noticed right away was that they've updated the linens so that they are nice clean duvets rather the yucky old flowery motel bedspreads pictured in other travelers pics. Would definitely recommend this as a roadside stop and would stay here again.

It seemed a bit off the grid, just off the interstate in the open spaces of South Dakota. Still it was well maintained, and provided the basics that were needed for a nights stay. This is not a luxury stop, just a basic place to hang your hat overnight.

We drove from suburban Milwaukee, WI to Kadoka, because it's is the closest town to Badlands National Park, which we wanted to play in the next morning. Seemingly scary options in this little town. We picked the ABVI on reviews and price, literally because we'd only be sleeping there. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean and decent. Breakfast was actually way better than we expected. Lots of towels, but no hair dryer. For the money and the location "in the middle of nowhere" I would have rated this a five except for the fact, that there seemed to be quite a bit of polyester in the bed linens, which made for sweaty night on what would have been a pretty comfortable bed if we were sleeping on pure cotton.

Americas Best Value Inn was a welcoming sight after driving straight through from Chicago. Check in was a breeze coupled with friendly service. The rates are very reasonable, even at the height of summer. The room was standard for a hotel of this type, but it was comfortable. There are a couple of places close by to get something to eat. I recommend the Sunset Grill located next door in the same building as the Subway. The jaw dropping, other worldly awesomeness of Badlands NP is only 25 miles away!
