“Best Cabins in the Black Hills!”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

This is our third year staying at Newton Forks, the best kept secret in the Black Hills! There are several cabins to select from if you book early. We stayed in the most secluded of all of them this year and it was private, quiet, clean, furnished and supplied with everything we needed! We watched the deer nestle down at night by the pasture in the aspen; watched the deer family in the meadow centering the ranch. Newton Fork Ranch is less than a mile from Hill City, and in between several major National Monuments or Parks. Loved it and will always return when we go to the bike rally in Sturgis!

Room Tip: Grandmas house and Harney Cabin are for more than 4 people. Cabins that have 4 people personally fee...

If you want a peaceful place to get away from the crowds and see some beautiful scenery, I would recommend Newton Fork Ranch in Hill City, SD.
If consists of a group of very nice cabins set in a small valley just 1/2 mile west of Hill City.
When we were there in the spring, each morning and evening there would be mule deer not far from our patio grazing without a worry in the world.
The cabins are excellent with cooking facilities and comfortable beds.
The owners will do anything they can do make your stay a great one.
I wouldl highly recommend Newton Fork Ranch to anyone looking for a quiet, serene place to stay.

Room Tip: It depends on the number of people. They have one large cabin and then some smaller ones. All can...

My wife and I have traveled to the Black Hills at least once a year for the last 35 years. We have stayed in Rapid City, Deadwood, Custer and Spearfish. About 5 years ago we found Newton Fork Ranch and now it is our "only" place to stay in the Hills. Great cabins that have everything that you need. Upkeep on the cabins is great and they are very clean.

Hill City is a great destination, lots of art gallery's, good restaurants and a great grocery store. Plus it is close to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park and Sylvan Lake.

Excellent location in South Dakota near National Parks. Extreamly clean cabin in a quiet wooded setting with no tv!!! Kids had an excellent time playing in the field and trees. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Our family enjoys traveling to the Black Hills of South Dakota throughout the year. We recently have found this true gem... "Newton Fork Ranch." The location is absolutely breathtaking and is set off the main "tourist" roads so it is quiet and relaxing. The management of the facility is wonderful and well maintained.

We have stayed at Newton Fork Ranch four times now and have always enjoyed ourselves. The cabins are clean, quiet and comfy. It is a great location for exploring the area and sits right between Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Best of all......our dogs can come along!!! There is plenty of space for them and with a gate opening onto the trail we always have a chance to stretch our legs. If you stay make sure to visit the Alpine as well. They serve only steak for dinner and amazing german food for lunch.

We just came back from a wonderful trip in South Dakota. We rented the "Trails End" cabin at Newton Fork Ranch. The cabin is small but very cozy - plenty big for the two of us. It does have a sleeper sofa so you can sleep four. I was concerned that the bedroom (very comfy bed) was in the loft and the bathroom downstairs and having to go down in the middle of the night, but it really wasn't a problem. There is no TV, but there were board games and a CD player/radio which was fine - nice to have some peace and quiet. Everything you need is supplied, i.e., full kitchen with dishes, cookwhere, silverware, towels and linens, etc. You just need to bring your food. We covered a lot of area in SD and these cabins were by far the best. They were bigger than many that we saw, and they were much more private as some others had their cabins right next to each other. At Newton Fork Ranch there are only six cabins and you are not stacked up on top of each other - plenty of room between the cabins. The cabins are in Hill City (nice town) which is central to everything we had planned to do (Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Black Hills, Sturgis, Deadwood, etc.). There is a walking trail next to the cabins that goes on for miles. Just keep in mind, the "season" in that area ends at the first of October. There were some things already closed for the season (1880 train ride, Old West Town), but we still had plenty to do. Lots of deer in the clearing each morning that you can watch from the porch. Would absolutely recommend it and will stay there again if we go back to that area.

Our well-appointed accommodations will await you after a day of hiking and biking on the 109-mile Mickelson Trail, which runs through our property. We have a private access gate that opens directly onto the trail. If you are looking forward to some of that famous Black Hills fishing, Deerfield Lake is just up the road. And Hill City, with its many art galleries, restaurants, award-winning wineries, and gift shops is only a ten minute walk into town. And after a day of touring, imagine curling up by a fireplace in the afternoon reading a book or enjoying a glass of wine on the deck. A truly magical experience! ... more   less
