“Could smell the bacon down the street!!”
Reviewed June 10, 2010

We ride our motorcycles from Hot Springs this morning and were hungry by the time we got to Hot Springs. Saw the Cafe and went in following the smell of bacon! They have a great little buffet for breakfast with all you can eat! The waitress was fun and attentive to our needs. The only thing that would be good is if they could clean the unisex bathroom. The food was good though and it was only your own fault if you didn't get enough to eat!

“Average at best”
Reviewed June 8, 2010

Food was so so. Steak seemed like it was deep fat fried. Service wasn't anything to write home about. Not planning to go back or recommend.

“Liked the HIll City Cafe”
Reviewed June 3, 2010

We stayed in Hill City for 3 nights in May of 2010 and ate at different places. I liked the Hill City Cafe. It seemed to me that this is where a lot of the local people dined. The menu was varied and the food was good and the prices were reasonable. They even had a litlle salad bar with soup for dinner, the night we were there it was stuffed pepper soup. The place kind of reminded me of a diner. It was nothing fancy but for the price and selection it was good. Also the workers were very friendly.

“A nice, friendly, small town restaurant and a good value”
Reviewed July 27, 2009

A fancy restaurant, this is not. A restaurant like Alpine Inn for top notch steak, this is not the place.

This is a little country (probably family ran) restaurant in the middle of a small town. The interior is not fancy and in fact the floor is uneven because that is how the builing has settled.

The staff is extremely friendly and outgoing and there to to take care of you and do a great job. The menu is varied and the prices are extremely reasonable.

When we were there, they had a dinner buffet with barbeque ribs, chicken, fish, spagehtti and salisbury steak. (as well as the normal sides.) Their salad bar had several types of jello and bean salads. My mother and mother in law still rave about their bean and jello/fruit salads. My wife loved the barbeque ribs and they were kept so hot on the buffet that the sauce was boiling! I can't say the Salisbury steak was good, somewhat dry as were the mashed potatoes, but the fried chicken was excellent as was the mac and cheese. The Spaghetti was ok, needed a little more sauce, but it lots of meat in it. I tried the corn on the cob and it was soggy. (always a problem with corn on the cob on a buffet... if it sits, it gets soggy.) My daughter got a side order of Mozzerella sticks were she said were some of the best that she has had. We were too full from the buffet to try any of the desserts. (although the pieces of pie in the display case looked very good and very tempting.)

Overall it was an average meal but the price was good for the meals that we got. The Service and friendliness of the staff helped improve their ranking as well. Please note that the Hill City Cafe will take credit cards BUT only for bills of over $10... a policy that you will find is normal in this area.

I would recommend the Hill City Cafe for a quick, easy, cheap meal and a great way to meet some friendly people.

“Best Lunch on the whole trip”
Reviewed July 6, 2008

Dealing with two kids can be tricky at times especially when they are hot tired and hungry. Great friendly service, not the cleanliness place in town but great food for a great price. they have real veggie burgers and the hamburgers are great. kids got PB&J's, good comfort food to fill up on while fighting the crowds.
