The food was wonderful, as was the atmosphere. We arrived upon opening at 5:00pm and the place was already full 10 minutes later (off season weekend). Be prepared to wait, or get there early. Dessert was just as good as the meal (Napoleon pastry, big enough to split).

Well worth the trip, and you can't beat the price. May be our new favorite restaurant.

We are local and have been here a few times for dinner. The food is always delicious. Visitors should know that the dinner menu consists of your choice of steak (I think 6 - 8 oz are the options). Recently they've added a vegetarian pasta option which I tried and loved. The desserts are incredible; make sure you save room to try one! Also visitors should know that cards are not accepted but there is an ATM in the lobby. I would have given 5 stars but the service seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes the service is rude, other times we couldn't ask for a better waitress.

After the morning 1880's Train we walked up the block for a lunch time menu of German brats, red cabbage, rye bread and Spaezle. I understand that the evening menu is two entres: a big steak plate and a bigger steak plate. It is a place with a rich European atmosphere. A place to go to celebrate. Be prepared to wait in line, because it has a good reputation.

For dinner there are only two selections. Large and small, for your filet mignon dinner. Being from South Dakota, this is still one of my favorite places to go for a night out.

This was a real treat on a cold winter day. Not only is the historic building beautiful and cozy, but the hearty German food was delicious and plentiful.
