i stayed here on my trip to the black hills to see crazy horse monument, the mammoth site, and mount rushmore. very good, central location. hotel had great authentic atmosphere. breakfast was your usual hiexpress fare, they have these wierd conveyer belt pancakes and no waffle iron. staff was a little overbearing but overall, great trip!

Room Tip: all rooms are good rooms

Pretty typical HIE in design. We had a king suite facing the train track and road on the top floor. It was very quiet and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everything was very clean and housekeeping was exceptional with a couple requests we had. The towels were thick, B&B toiletries, microwave, mini-frig, and coffeemaker. We stayed several days and it was a great central location for us to visit everything. The only complaint I would have is the breakfast room is way too small. We were here at the end of the season and there was not enough room for all the guests. I could not imagine being here in the summer with children. However, the staff did try hard to accommodate by setting up portable tray tables throughout the lobby. We would definitely stay here again.

If you want good coffee, try The Smiling Bear Espresso bar on Main St. or The Coffee Cabin on Hwy 385 just outside of town.

Room Tip: First floor backside faces a wall. Get a higher floor room or face the front.

We would not have gotten this place during the summer for this wonderful price. It is right in Keystone, which is just a drive away from Mt Rushmore. Keystone was deserted...LITERALLY, a ghost town in December (just before Christmas) but it was such a wonderful stay. The staff were thoughtful in even getting our room heater going before we arrived and it was warm and toasty when we arrived in from the cold outside. Due to the time of the year, there werent many restaurants open but the staff took the trouble to find out on the internet and call around in Rapid City to find out. The hotel furnishings were thoughtful, quirky and very welcoming of the holiday spirit. The breakfast was fairly substantial too and frequently checked to make sure there was enough food etc. Clean. Roomy rooms too.

We have stayed numerous times at the Holiday Inn Express Hill City and each time we have never had any issues. The accommodations are always great. The complimentary breakfast is very tasty. Main Street is within easy walking distance' five minutes.

We spent three nights at the Holiday Inn Express in September of 2013. The room (2 bedroom suite) was clean and contained everything we needed. Breakfast was very good and contained hot and cold options. Of exceptional note is the staff working the breakfast area. Not only did they keep everything fresh in the breakfast area, but they were extremely helpful about the local area, providing insight which doesn't come from a travel book. The location of this hotel is also perfect for seeing the combo of Custer, Mt Rushmore and Crazyhorse.

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom suite is more economical than 2 rooms. It also has three TV's - providing options...

What a great place to stay, We stayed here four nights and the staff was some of the friendliest I have experienced in my travels. They are very knowledgable about the seanic sites of their own city as well as the surrounding area & help the guest any way they can. The complimentary breakfast is as good as it gets The hotel is centrally located in the Black Hills, close to Custer & Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave National Park, & Mammonth Site. I will deffinately stay here when I'm in the area again.

Nice hotel for our trip to SD. Location is great for visiting the Black Hills of South Dakota. Mt. Rushmore is 20 mins. away. Hotel has a good pool and spa. Had to do laundry, worked well for us. Walk to the 1880 Train Station, worth the roundtrip to Keystone. Plenty of parking. Breakfast was fine. No complaints. If you want to see some wildlife, take the Old Hill City road (right behind the hotel) to Keystone, it crosses the train tracks several times and we had fun chasing the train. We would stay there again.

Room Tip: One side of the hotel faces the hills (quiet), the other side faces the town and Train (lots of fun)
