We rented a row cabin that was equipped with a 2 burner stove/fridge/sink unit, fireplace, fire ring and 2 double beds. Our room did not have a view, but other rooms/sites had great views. Not the cleanest room I've stayed in and it could of used some updating. Expect ants and small spiders. The resort's beauty, amenities and location made up for what the room lacked. The resort is located in the middle of all of the Black Hills action. Lots of activities for your family at the resort as well. Restaurant and coffee/snack bars on site. The outdoor pool was heated and felt nice after hot day trips to the nearby attractions. Hot tub needs better jets. Staff was friendly/helpful. Cell phone/wifi service is not available, which will allow you to actually talk with your family.

Norm, at the Palmer Gulch Lodge and KOA campground, went out of his way to welcome us and give us a comfortable place to stay. It was a very nice facility and the prices were reasonable. We would highly recommend it, and Norm!

We stayed at the lodge in Aug. 2013. Like everyone notes great location and lots of fun things to do with the kids. Outside of that it goes downhill. 1) They have a management problem! The service was bad and on top of that I called and email when I got home and the management could not respond. Expect! No help with any problems you may have or questions. 1) They have a water problem the pools are green and the tubs and sinks are yellow from the water issue. 2) The towels and sheets may be clean but don't look that way. 3) One on the better rooms in the lodge is next to the office so you can hear the employees. If you are camping the place is great. Be warned of the lodge and most of the staff!! A guest that came asked why the pool was green the front desk person said they were fixing it and then when the man walked away she rolled her eyes has if she was tired of hearing it. Best of luck to those who are going to stay there. I only hope that when the management of the lodge goes on vacation they stay in a place just like the lodge. I will be telling everyone I know about the service.

Although a lot of amenities were done for the season, we did enjoy the Lodge at Palmer's Gulch. It was clean and very accommondating. Stayed there from Sept 9 - Sept 13. The location couldn't be better. It was located just about in the middle of all of our planned day trips.

Room Tip: Just a short distance into Hill City - a cute little town.

We stayed at the Lodge at Palmer Gulch for two nights while visiting Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park. It is in an ideal location for this - just down the mountain from Mt. Rushmore. It is located in a KOA campground and had a restaurant and a few stores on the premises. However, we did not use these facilities so I cannot comment on them. The positives for the Lodge are location, price, and a decent breakfast included. The big negative is that although the rooms are clean they are so dated that they don't feel that clean with dreary decor and frayed towels and washcloths. The bottom of our tub was almost brown with age. Again, I believe it was clean but it doesn't feel that clean. There was no hair conditioner provided. We also found it very noisy in the mornings and a couple of times heard dogs barking in nearby rooms. It is an ok motel and because of the convenient location and price we would probably stay there again but if you are looking for new and the feeling of sparkling clean I would not recommend this motel.

My family was here for 6 days, Great loction to all you come to see. Wonderful acitivites at camp for kids big and small. Clean, friendly. Not great Wi-fi but YOUR ON VACATION!!! Heard about green pools, but they were fine just the pool walls are slighly stained. Resturant was a little pricey, but local snack shops and wine tasting were great!

We rented cabin 19 for our extended family of 10. The cabin is dark, they should paint or replace paneling. But overall the facility was good. We had 5 kids under the age of 11, so much for them to do. It was labor day weekend so it was very busy, but still very peaceful and relaxing. All staff encountered were great. We would do it again, but maybe get 2 smaller cabins with AC. This one did not have AC.
