“Best food in Deadwood”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

Sits atop Keven Coster's Casino in downtown Deadwood. Walk up the stairs and see all of Kevin's movies costumes and photos. The resturant is great with a large selection. A bit pricey for vacation travellers but a nice dinner spot if staying ion the area. Eaten several times there with no complaint on the food or service. Kevin does stop by from time to time, so be on the look out.

“Salmon tasted old”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

My husband and I had dinner here. I ordered the Salmon and I was expecting it would taste decent to say the least but it had an after taste which was the taste of an old frozen fish that came from the frozen section of a grocery store. My husband ordered the Cajun seafood which was just fine but when he ordered chocolate cake for dessert the chocolate cake was really bad! The place is nice but the food is bad!

“Some style but absolutely no substance.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

Visited here for a birthday celebration meal during a recent holiday. The restaurant had the right kind of ambiance for occasion dining but was let down badly by the kitchen. Ordered the strawberry salad as an appetizer. It consisted of literally a few torn up lettuce leaves, a couple of sliced strawberries, two walnut halves and a teaspoon of goat’s cheese with far too much dressing. This was really taking minimalism to new heights. Main courses were equally unbalanced. Ordered the Braised Buffalo Shank which came as a huge portion of meat in comparison with a tiny smear of garlic mash and not a single vegetable. Same for the Pork Belly which my husband ordered and a portion size he described as ‘ladies that lunch’. As no vegetables were available as ‘sides’ we assumed the dish would come complete. When my husband expressed his disappointment at the portion size to the waitress she suggested he help me out with my portion and as for the lack of vegetables she would pass on our views to the chef. Unlike the previous reviewer we were not offered any discount and yes this was a Saturday night too so you would expect a full team in the kitchen. We eat out often both at home and abroad in everything from diner style establishments to Michelin starred restaurants but were at a loss to understand what this chef’s take on fine dining was supposed to be. Service though pleasant was far too ponderous. By the time the waitress had decanted and poured the red wine we were sitting there so long that the food had gone cold. As she was serving so many other tables it took a long time in between glass top ups so much so that by the end of our meal we were left with most of the bottle. The whole experience was flat rather than celebratory.

“great meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

We decided to go to Jakes on a whim. We were later in the evening on a Sunday night, so they were out of several entrees.

The portions were very generous and service was impeccable. The meal for two ended up being $100 for two with tip.

“Nice staff & good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

We came in about 15 minutes before closing and you would have never known it. The waitress was very nice and helped us choose our meals. The food was fresh and hot! The movie props and costumers were very nice to look at also.
