Travelled from Australia to experience Deadwood. Loved the tv series and thats the real reason why we travelled to this destination. Loved the location of the Bullock Hotel, step out onto the Main street. Loved the atmosphere. Room was very neat, tidy and comfy. Separate bathroom was good. Ate at Bully's for breakfast but was very disappointed unfortunately in the food. Location right on the Main Street, step out into the activity was great. Disappointed with the commercialism and couldnt find many nice places to enjoy a meal. Enjoyed some fine dining at Kevin Costner''s Hotel, Midnight Star. Food was excellent, service was great. Memorabilia from Kevin Costners movies interesting to see. Heard tell of the ghost tour but didnt need to go on it as we could feel Seth Bullocks presence in the hotel already! A good stay and experience.

This is a great historic hotel in perhaps the best location on Main Street in Deadwood. The rooms are very nice and decorated to goldrush decor. The front desk staff was great. We ate at Bully's for breakfast twice and food & service were good and at a fair price. The casino is somewhat small but the fact it's quiet and has free drinks made it enjoyable. Seth's Cellar restaurant was closed----we were told there had been a management change recently and no word when it would re-open.
The only complaint we had is paper coffee cups in the room.
We have stayed at several other hotels in Deadwood but this is definitely our favorite.

We stayed in the 3rd floor jacuzzi suite. The room was nice, and though it's a smoking room, you could just barely notice it if you thought about it. For $230/night though, I expected better. The toilet backed up very easily, and when I went to the front desk, they handed me a plunger. Okay, that's fine, I get that. But when I return the plunger, they acted like they didn't want it back. The lady tried to get a hold of the maintenance guy, and when he wasn't showing up, and nothing was happening, I ended up just leaving the plunger there on the floor of the lobby for all to see. Hot water was spotty in the large, comfortable room, but overall, it's not that great of a place.

So saddened by our experience at The Bullock. From the moment we checked in the service was horrible - no eye contact and then complete rudeness. As the evening continues things worsened. No ghost tour as advertised, that was a big drawback.

The beds were as if they came straight from the goldrush - squeaky and stiff, very uncomfortable! Even though they advertised as being opened for dinner they were closed.

In the morning we noticed we had no coffee cups in the room and we sent our 14 year old daughter downstairs to pick up cups. She was treated so poorly that when we later went downstairs with her and people saw us all together adults apologized to her for being rude.

Had breakfast in Bully's and most food was good. the most simple dish of oatmeal was much more like soup, but was a unappetizing end to our entire stay.

Great staff, speedy check in. Breakfast at Bully's was quick and good for a fair price. Loved the decor of the rooms in keeping with the period of the hotel. Located downtown and able to walk to most other attractions.

Casino in hotel does not have table games, but slots were paying while I was there.

We booked a room in the Bullock's Branch House because hotel staff said it would be quieter than the hotel (on Saturday night the hotel has a live band). Our room was extremely dark & dreary - even with every light on. But, that was probably a good thing because where we could see, what we saw was dust - on the wooden window blinds and the wooden shelves in the bathroom. And, water stains on the bathroom ceiling.

At 9:00 p.m., we called the front desk to ask about the air conditioning because adjusting the thermostat did nothing to stop the warm air blowing in the room. We were told someone would be over shortly. But, nothing changed until 3:00 a.m. when the power went out (we never got an explanation for that and it appeared that power remained on in neighboring buildings). We tried opening the windows to get some air - but they did not open. In the morning, we asked again about the air conditioning and were told, "oh - we haven't been able to switch from heat to air conditioning yet." And, this was the end of May! One would think the person at the desk in the evening would have known this.

When checking out, I asked for a rate adjustment due to the air conditioning. I was told the manager would have to do this and they would call me. Two follow-up calls from me - and I have heard nothing.

This place clearly does not care about customer service.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

We stayed one night and it was very nice, no complaints. I love the non-chain hotels and this is a good one. It has history and charm. The room was big, and for an older building the water pressure in shower was excellent. The staff was friendly and the lobby and our room was very clean. Would highly recommend. We even had an Rv and was easy to park in the free Bullock hotel parking lot behind the hotel.
