A note about Deadwood in general: we did not realize it was little Vegas. There are slot machines EVERYWHERE. This hotel was clean and well located, but you have to walk your family through a casino complete with slinky bar maids to get to the hotel portion. Not great for people with a moral compass. Hated taking the kids through there. There is a tiny indoor pool (3.5 feet deep) and a hot tub (slightly smaller than the pool). I am still giving this hotel a very good rating because it had wifi, was clean, was within walking distance of fun stuff and was reasonably priced. Cool historical building with metal siding. Not for us, but worth a gamble if you do not mind this type of atmosphere.

This is a nice hotel in Deadwood. We were there for the Ron White (comedian) show and enjoyed it. The seating was fine. Do give yourself some time to find your seat ....it's a tad confusing for first timers (or at least it was for us) to find your seat due to the number of beer concessions, etc. you need to navigate through to get to the seating section. Beyond that, its a good place for a show.

Slot area has a variety of games; after the show, there was a good band that played which we enjoyed listening to.

Parking is fine (but note - part of the garage is also for the government workers and not part of the casino parking.) Once you figure it out, we were fine fine with the parking.

On June 6th, my friend and I had the honor of attending the Kenny Rogers concert! Let me tell you, he still has it at his age. The show was fantastic and more than we expected. I have one BIG complaint....please tell the people attending to take off their wide brimmed cowboy hats. I understand people who want to make a statement, but don't do it at the expense of another person. Wearing a hat at a concert is disrespectful. We didn't want to cause a scene so we didn't report this to security. I wish I had! that's all I want to say on the subject...get rid of the hats!

Room Tip: Although my husband and I have never had the honor to stay here, the place is a gem for Deadwood!

Our group of 4 had a great visit to this hotel June 19-22. The property still has that new look while being surrounded by wonderful history. Everything at Deadwood Mountain Grand (DMG) was attractive, clean and polished. The staff we met; Jerry the Bellman, Neil in Security, Kymber the Concierge, and Matt at the bar were all just great. Neil was the "new guy" but he rememberered my name all weekend-which is rare especially for a security guy. But Neil is not your normal security guy, he held great conversations, smiled a lot, spoke nicely about his fellow staff, and was really looking forward to all the great concerts they have coming to DMG. He was a great reflection upon the hotel. Jerry always has a big smile on his face and will break his back to help you. Kymber had not even clocked in when I asked her some questions and she gave me some great recomendations with no hurry to punch in or put her keys and coat away at all. Cocktail Matt worked a group of bachelorettes like a pro and still had time to tend to the other customers. Upon check in we had a small issue with the room, but it was fixed within minutes-nice recovery Mr. Trautman's team! Mistakes happen, but fixing the issue is what a professional organization like DMG does. The Hotel location is perfect. The hotel section is perfectly set back away from the Casino and Concert venue to maximize our quiet rest. We had a great nights sleep each night. The value was great for what we got. I would come back without hesitation. We were sorry to leave for home. Good Job DMG and please tell your staff to keep up the great work!

Room Tip: Choose city view for a nice view of Historic Downtown Deadwood.

This complex perches on a hillside with a view of the upper end of Deadwood below. It was recently opened in the refurbished Homestake Gold Mine Slime Plant, so has an industrial look outside. Inside, the hotel is contemporary Holiday Inn luxurious. It is confusing when you first check in. The entrance (which leads to the restaurant, casino and convention complex) does have a little space to park while you check in - ask the doorman how to get to the hotel, which is kept separate from the casino and actually is above it on the hillside. He will send you through the casino to the hotel elevator, which leads up to the hotel lobby, where there is a nice sitting area next to an enormous stone fireplace.
There is a children's playroom attached to the lobby, as well as a spa and a pool/hot tub that has an adults-only time from 11:00pm-midnight.
The hotel dining room does a nice job - we ate dinner and a couple breakfasts there. All the hotel employees we encountered during our 3-day stay were very friendly. Beds were very comfortable. The attached parking ramp does feature valet parking, thanks to the casino. There is also the option of taking the Deadwood trolley, which stops at the bottom of the hill at the beginning of the parking approach. It is $1 (exact change) each time you board or $5 for a full day. We were there on a Mon-Thurs, so found the schedule a little sketchy. It is a good way to get a view of the town and nearby area, as it stops at resorts on the outlying edges of Deadwood.

We stayed at the Deadwood Mountain Grand for 7 nights and couldn't of asked for much more. The Black Hills are incredible and the town of Deadwood is one of my favorites. Deadwood to this day still symbolizes the wild days of the old west. Back then luxuries were at a premium. The DMG allows guests the comforts of home, smack dab in the center of a historic town. In a town with a population of only 1270, the DMG offers comfortable lodging and entertainment options more commonly found in higher populated area.

My only two knocks on this property would be
1. The restaurants service and food quality leave a lot to be desired. (One women, who appeared to be in charge was wonderful. The rest of her staff seemed like they could care less about us)
2. The casino is tight, meaning very little winning going on and the comp system is a joke. The Native American casino around my local area comps out at a rate that's around 10x higher than the DMG.

Normally my complaints would drop my rating down from the 5-star but to be honest after we realized that the restaurant wasn't very good and the comp system stunk, we simply used the DMG as a prime launching point for our days activities and a comfortable place to retire to each night.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a view of historic Deadwood

Very nice, spacious, quiet and clean rooms. Excellent front entry staff. Great location in Deadwood. Awesome that a slime factory was remodeled into a wonderful hotel. Would recommend it as a place to stay if visiting the area. Cleaning service could have been better about replenishing cups, etc. Did have a laundry facility on site. Food was good in their restaurant but the service was a bit slow.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the town!!!
