“Felt very welcome.”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

I just finished a stay at the Deadwood Mountain Grand for 4 nights. When we approached the front door we were a little disorientated wondering if we were coming in the right entrance for the hotel. The doormen Jerry and Roy were lovely to deal with and Roy walked us through and escorted us to the front check in desk pointing out the restaurant, toilets etc. during our stay we spent numerous conversations with Roy and Jerry discussing the history of deadwood and all the must see things to do while in town. Every time we left or came back they made us feel so welcome. I have not met two honest, caring, individuals in a long time. Excellent customer service, they are a credit to the hotel and casino. I would go back and stay just to say G'day to them again. The hotel as a whole was lovely and we enjoyed our time there....

A very important component of our service mix is guest service and it sounds like our personnel delivered -- from your positive experience... I will be sure to share the nice comments with Roy and Jerry. Come back soon!

I had a recent one night stay at the DMG Hotel (Nov. 2012). You have to take an elevator from the casino to the hotel lobby. The lobby is beautifully decorated wtih large stone fireplaces, oversize leather furniture and great artwork. The check in was very efficient and instead of a "counter" they have small desks which was a nice change! My room as a double queen on the 3rd floor. The elevators were very fast, I never felt I had to wait. The room was nice size with a large entryway, bathroom off the entryway with a glass door walk in shower that was quite nice. The bathroom was a bit on the small size It would be difficult to have two people in there getting ready at the same time. The room furnishings were nice with the standard ammenities you would expect. The beds were VERY comfortable with pillowtop mattresses. The artwork in the rooms and public spaces were beautiful. I looked at the pool area and it seemed nice. I was very impressed they have a handicap lift for the pool and hottub. That is definitly not something you see very much in hotels. Well done!! Another nice touch was on the morning of checkout as I was leaving my room a housekeeper was in the hallway. As I passed her and said good morning she smiled and said, "Thank you for choosing to stay with us". Nice customer service skills!!

Room Tip: If you want a view ask for a front facing room otherwise your view will be of a rocky hillside.

My wife and I stayed here 10/17/12 to celebrate my 35th birthday. We have stayed many places in Deadwood in the past, and travel here a couple times a year. This was our first stay at the DWMG, and we were quite impressed. Check in was quick and friendly. We were given a room on the 3rd floor, with a balcony. Our view overlooked the city of Deadwood, and we liked that the balcony was of a decent size. The bed was among the best I've ever slept on in a hotel! The room and the bathroom were both tastefully done. The room was of about average size, but everything seemed to be of high quality, from the TV to the sheets to the soaps provided. The casino on sight has a wide variety of games. The only issue we had with the entire property were two bad breakfast steaks from the onsite "Ought Six" grill. There was something majorly "off" about the taste of the steaks, and the waitress was less than friendly when we informed her that something was wrong, and that wed pass on taking another steak as a replacement. We did, however, have an enjoyable breakfast at the Gem Steakhouse just down the street. Other than that unfortunate experience at their restaurant, we had an excellent stay. I can wholeheartedly recommend the hotel, but the restaurant could certainly use some improvement if our experience was anything to base an opinion on. Maybe it was just an off day, but the attitude that came along with our inedible breakfast made a bad experience that much worse. Otherwise, however, don't hesitate to stay....and don't worry, there are plenty of other eating options within easy walking distance!

Room Tip: The Balcony rooms have big balconies, with 2 chairs and ashtrays provided. The views are very nice.

Thank you so much for choosing the GRAND to celebrate such a fabulous milestone -- 35 years -- wow, congratulations! We're so appreciative of your feedback, as it is both honest and constructive. Please know that we have addressed your restaurant concerns in a big way, with the goal of providing consistently excellent food service and quality in that area. Trust that new, positive changes will soon take place. As for the bright side of your stay, our brand new, lavishly appointed hotel, we are thrilled that we exceeded your expectations in that category. We hope to see you back through our doors soon and thank you for your business.

We stayed in late August, staff was very friendly, front desk was very well informed on the sites and historical background of the town. We travel often and are quite fussy about room quality and cleanliness, being in the building inspection and health and safety inspection business has made me more aware of not so nice things to be on the look out for. The rooms are extremely well cared for and the amenities are plentiful. Upon our check in we were advised on the up coming car show as well as some other sites to see. We did have breakfast three times in the hotel, food was hot and fresh, server was very outgoing and most importantly the room was comfortable and clean. After checking out to continue our trip into rapid city this hotel had set such a high bar that we checked out of our room in rapid city and returned to deadwood, the staff at he front desk welcomed us back and managed to find rooms for our party even during a very busy weekend. By far in the top three places our family has ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Be prepared for a short trip from the parking lot to your room but just ask the door man for help if...

The check in desks were very pleasant, friendly and polite. When we got to our room, we found a bottle of champagne for our anniversary compliments of the hotel. The room was CLEAN, comfortable and has nice amenities. Very comfortable and the photos in each room are museaum quality. We will be back, perfect for a superb meal, great show and the best hotel west of the Mississippi !

Room Tip: Book early when there is a concert, they sell out fast

Although we usually stay at a different downtown Deadwood hotel with which we're very happy, my wife and I decided to give the Deadwood Mountain Grand a try for our 25th wedding anniversary. We arrived at the property around 3:10PM. I pulled up and waited for the valet and waited...and waited. So I parked the in their parking lot, then grabbed our luggage and headed in. When we walked up to the door the valet was there. Bad timing on my part. As per previous reviews, it's a hike from the front entrance to the hotel entrance. Got to the hotel check-in desk about 3:20, and was told "Check in time isn't until 4:00PM, but let me see if your room is ready." After a few seconds, we were told, "Your room isn't ready - but you can leave your luggage in the conference room until it is. It should be ready by 4:00." We weren't comfortable with leaving our luggage, so we dragged it back to our vehicle. We then checked out some casinos on Main street, and headed back to Deadwood Mountain Grand about 4:30. Got our luggage, walked up to the hotel entrance, and the receptionist was on what was obviously a personal phone call. After a minute or two, she said, "sorry, I've gotta go..." and turned her attention to us. She checked us in and said, "the elevators to your room around the corner" and pointed straight ahead to the conference room. We started to take the wrong direction when she said, "no, it's the other elevator bank behind me." Again, probably bad timing on my part. We headed to our room which indeed was very nice. Went out for dinner, again at a different casino - wasn't prepared to give the in-house restaurant a chance yet based on my shaky early experience with service. Came back and went to register in the Deadwood Mountain Grand players club. Well once again, only one person on duty, and there were "system issues". Waited about 15 minutes, but did indeed get registered. Had coupons for free game play, and 2-for-1 drink specials. Did play the machines and had a drink at the bar, and the service was indeed excellent. Then next morning, we did have breakfast at the 1906 Grille and it was excellent, too. I'm going to chalk up my early experience to "bad timing" on my part, but don't know if I'll return or not - the service was overall good, but not better than the "haunted hotel" on Main Street we're used to staying at...

Thank you for giving Deadwood Mountain Grand hotel a try. We truly appreciate your business and apologize for the challenges you encountered during your stay. As we have opened relatively recently, we continue to learn from customer feedback such as yours and take it seriously in improving our operation. We apologize for the breakdowns in customer service you experienced. They will definitely be addressed, as the guest service culture we attempt to instill in employees is one of putting the guest first, not one of making them feel like they had "bad timing." On the positive side, we're happy that once you did arrive in your hotel room, you enjoyed your accommodations, as well as the Aught Six Grille and the casino. We hope you'll try us again in the near future.

I cannot say enough good things about Deadwood Mountain Grand. The atmosphere, the location, the food, everything was fabulous! We attended the Rodney Carrington show and the event center was so impressive, we plan on attending many shows there. The hotel rooms are very, very nice and feel very high end. We had a great time in the Slime Plant, and your bar tenders are so awesome! Just a great experience and will be telling everyone about it!
