“The Lodge hotel & casino”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Any complaints were immediately addressed! The hotel was very nice and comfortable. As soon as we arrived in our room, the phone rang & it was the front desk checking to see if our room was satisfactory. The casino looked small, but was actually large & just spaced out between rooms. It gave a nice open & relaxed feeling (in comparison to some that inspire claustrophobia! lol!) The pool has a pirate ship in it & is very family friendly. There's also a hot tub right next to it so you can relax while the kids go nuts! The conference rooms are medium & huge. There was one point where we were supposed to have a meeting & there were no chairs. No one could find a staff member in the area, so we went to the front desk & the clerk sent someone on the spot! Only the kitchen seemed to have glitches. Our waitresses were great & stayed on top of things, even noticing when others' cooked breakfast was on the table & my cereal was not. It's right up the 'hill' from downtown Deadwood.

Room Tip: All rooms are great. We had a friend make a mistake & cancell their room. We had 4 people &...

The front staff, support services and wait staff in their restaurant were outstanding. We had a fabulous room, king bed, with balcony to enjoy the sunset/sunrise. There is a trolley that comes to the hotel on the hour ($1 each way per person) that will take you to Deadwood Main Street. We drove Main Street and there was nothing special for us to come back to, just more casinos. If you want to gamble, stay at this lodge and enjoy yourself. They have a wonderful little water park for the kids and a hot tub for adults. The hotel is close to Spearfish Canyon, which we took in since we arrived too early for our room to be ready. We had stayed in Hill City the night before which was an hour away, so we were there in a blink. Thought there was more to see downtown so that is why we decided to stay here rather than moving down the road. If I had to do it over, coming from Hill City which is a great location, I probably would pass on Deadwood. BUT, if you need to stay there, select The Lodge at Deadwood.

my wife and I spent 4 days at the wonderful hotel. the rooms are spacious, the service was top notch and the food was high quality and reasonably priced. I enjoyed the location just outside the tourist district of Deadwood. not much traffic and on a motorcycle this point is important.

My spouse and I stayed at the Lodge, the property is very clean. Enjoyed the meals in the resturant, especially breakfast.
Good service, comfortable beds.
A little out of town, but that was ok. Lots of parking too.

We had planned our trip in August 2012 and got a very good web rate for our 7 night stay in May 2013. We got a family suite (there was only my husband and me), Room 420, which was huge! Balcony, good view over Tatanka, very comfy beds, very clean, large fridge, 2 TV's. Room was very quiet. Free wifi a bonus. Staff very friendly throughout all areas. Perhaps the only annoying feature of the hotel was the very slow lift.We very much liked the fact that the hotel was situated outside the town, which means you were away from the hustle and bustle (although admittedly this was not an issue during a very quiet mid-May stay - Deadwood was pretty much still a ghost town, especially with the weather being very wet).
There is a trolley which goes to town and back once an hour during off-season, cost is a dollar per trip per person. Because the town was quiet and parking was not an issue, we always took our own car into town, and the cost for 3 or 4 hours parking worked out the same as the trolley would have cost.
Would recommend a visit to Tatanka, Kevin Costner's tribute to the Bison and the Lakota, just across the lodge. A tad self-indulgent, but very thought-provoking.
We are not gamblers so cannot comment on the casino.
We had dinner once at the Deadwood Grille; very nice food, our waitress (whose name I can't remember) a bit surly, but not enough to spoil the evening. For the money, I certainly rate the dining experience at the Deadwood Grille a lot higher than that at the Deadwood Social Club, where we had dinner a couple of days later.
We also frequented Oggies on most evenings for drinks and/or food, and must comment on the friendliness of all the staff there, especially the bar staff. Food very good, nice burgers and pizza.
All in all, we are very glad we chose the Deadwood Lodge for our extended stay (we used Deadwood as a base to expore the Black Hills and surrounding area). We can highly recommend the hotel and its restaurants and would certainly stay here again.

Took their shuttke from Rapid City ( need to prebook). Driver very helpful especially since United lost my luggage and the resulting paperwork. Hotel check in very smooth. Room was spacious and clean. No problems with free wifi. Hotel has complimentary coffee reg and decaf 24 / 7. Gift shop good as was the restaurant. Having a vehicle would be a plus as the town of Deadwood a little to far to walk. To say nothing of the hill. Would stay here again

When we checked in, we were met by a very pleasant young lady wearing a name badge indicating that her job title was (roll of drums please) "DIRECTOR OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS". We nearly turned round. The Lodge is a large casino hotel in Deadwood. It's like Reno or Vegas and not at all Western or "Cowboy", the noise of slot machines ringing out to the blue-rinse brigade is off-putting. However, the rooms are nice and large and comfortable and there is an excellent restaurant attached to the hotel. It's some distance out of Deadwood which seems like a disadvantage until you have a look at Deadwood, then it becomes a good thing, because Deadwood is a dump. It's possibly better in the summer but in May it's desperate.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review on TripAdvisor! We are sorry to hear that you did not find Deadwood to be enjoyable with all the slot machines. We apologize for any misconceptions you had of Deadwood before your arrival. Deadwood has a lot of history behind it and gaming is part of it.
