“WAS OK”

Was expecting something more. Sort of run down. Wish they would have better markings on where to walk.Didn't like that Wild Bill's grave was all locked up.

“Interesting but not someplace to spend hours.”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

Unlike years ago, you now have to park outside the cemetery and walk quite aways to see the star attractions, Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane's graves. They are side by side in the middle of the cemetery, up a few steps from the road. It was a very cold day with snow on the ground so we were quite cold by the time we got back to the car. There is normally a fee to enter but due to us being there off-season, there was no one collecting. I dropped some money in the little box to get an informational newspaper by the gate.

There is a very nice statue at Wild Bill's grave but Calamity Jane's is very plain and difficult to photograph. There are a number of other interesting graves there but without local knowledge most of them are lost on the general public.

The little visitor center/gift shop by the parking is worth visiting. There are a number of displays that are interesting with good information about the history and 'residents'. One display showed an old listing of how some of the people died. Some were quite humorous, in a morbid sort of way. "Fracture hump bone", for example. "Shot by mob" and "broken thumb" were two others.

“Wild Bill Hickok & Calamity Jane Burial Places”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

We were glad that we took the bus tour because it was quite steep in the cemetery. One of the most significant photo opportunities of Deadwood (Will Bill & Calamity Jane's graves).
Also, the tour included commentary and driving by other buildings of historical significance around Deadwood.
We hired Boot Hill bus tours, which is an open-air bus. Much easier to see (weather permitting, of course). We were blessed by good weather on this day (28 September).

“MO Traveler”

We visited Mount Moriah Cemetery while in Deadwood. We took the tour with a guide that had a great sense of humor. He made the steep climb in the bus a super trip. He related the history of Deadwood as well as facts about the cemetery. I loved seeing the graves of Calamity Jane and Wild Bill. I grew up in the time of Saturday morning western movies on television and at the theaters, so this was really a treat for me. The view of Deadwood from Mount Moriah is really spectacular. There is walking involved and it is uphill but it's not too hard. I would visit again if in Deadwood.
