A friend who visits Deadwood regularly recommended Nugget for their pizza, so we chose it for the final dinner of our Deadwood stay. Table service is paper plates and paper towels as napkins, but no big deal for us. We were seated next to a table of six fun older women who were on a bus trip from Minnesota, and they seemed have a problem getting one of their pizzas when we arrived. We had a wait for a rather aloof young woman server to take our drink orders, and a much longer wait to get them. With that, we were finally able to order from the aloof server; and we chose the Al Swearengen, substituting ham for pepperoni. By then, the women next to us had finally received their final pizza, when they had already finished the others, so they asked if we wanted some. My husband gladly took a couple of pieces, because he feared it might be a while before we got ours. Sure enough, it took some time, delivered by the cook, who was a friendly, quirky guy, who also brought out some chopped steak and hamburger in a dish for our little dog. He had been nonstop busy making pizzas, which explained the long waits for pizza. Unfortunately, our substitution of ingredients hadn't been made, but we were hungry and enjoyed the pizza anyway, especially the crust and excess gooey cheese. Waiting for our check took a while, as well as getting our credit card returned. Nugget Saloon isn't fancy, and their women servers could use a lesson in being more friendly and accommodating. But aside from that, if you aren't in a hurry, I think you will enjoy their pizza.
