Owner description: The mission of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation is to protect and preserve the culture, tradition and living heritage of the North American Indians. The Foundation demonstrates its commitment to this endeavor by continuing the progress on the world's largest sculptural undertaking by carving a memorial of Lakota leader Crazy Horse; by providing educational and cultural programming; by acting as a repository for American Indian artifacts, arts and crafts through the INDIAN MUSEUM OF NORTH AMERICA(R) and the NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL & CULTURAL CENTER(R); and by establishing and operating the INDIAN UNIVERSITY OF NORTH AMERICA(R) and, when practical, a medical training center for American Indians.

My husband and I stopped here while driving through South Dakota. We were in a bit of a hurry to attempt to catch a flight, so we didn't have much time. The prices here were outrageous! We couldn't believe how expensive it was, especially considering how far you are from the actual memorial site. Had I known that you couldn't drive or get very close to it, we would have just parked outside the entrance to take a picture or two. I did read that the museum was interesting, but being that we didn't have time to stop there, the $20 we spent for the two of us to get in, it was a huge waste!

We recently visited with our two children (ages 11 and 13) and all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Based on some of the reviews, we thought about just looking from the road, but went in and were glad we did. First of all, we were happy to support the building of the monument (funded with visitor fees, not from the government) and it was great for the kids to learn something about the Native American story - not to mention the great story of a man who devoted his life to a cause he believed in. Yes it's an extra $4 to ride the bus up to the monument, and you don't get that close - but again it's for a good cause and compared to the overall expense of the trip, it was a small price to pay.

We were there 2 days ago. I agree with all the positive reviews. The negative people must not have gone through the whole place. At first I was put off at charge but I gladly gave more to help the cause. I'm glad he left models to follow, & that was impessive too!

We were very impressed with the friendly staff at Crazy Horse. Our family of four got in for
free because my husband is One-eigth Indian. The monument is still under construction, and will continue to be for the next one hundred years. It is amazing!!!
Upon arrival, you will be shown a video explaining why Crazy Horse was chosen to
represent the Indians and how the council chose the artist. The original sculpture artist is now dead, but his family continues his project. There is a museum, gift shop and
Hamburger stand.
