Our usual Columbia experience is a quick fly-by on I-26, with fast food grabbed from one of the usual suspects. At the persistent urging of a friend, we decided to stop at Rush's as we were passing through. I can only wonder why we haven't done this a long time ago.
Rush's is fast food, and they do it proudly. In many good ways, it was "faster food". The first clue this was not going to be the usual experience were the smiles at the counter. With three cash registers working, everyone was being greeted with smiles that seemed to say the employees actually enjoyed working there. The hustle in the food prep area, the clean dining room, and an attendant offering iced tea refills all pointed to the message that a quick stop restaurant can be a pleasant experience when management and staff care about their customers.
Most of all, Rush's is fast food with flavor. The burgers were large, with fresh lettuce, tomato and other condiments. The fries were crisp, and did not taste like they had been aged under heat lamps. Although we did not try the fried chicken, it was obviously a popular item and looked delicious. Maybe next time... We will be back and we certainly recommend Rush's to others looking for tasty food done quickly and done well.
